Uber?

Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 146 Posts: 25010 | Wow, this Uber/Lyft Vegas thing is quite a story. The Vegas cabbies WANT Uber to come, 75% of them have already applied to Uber to drive in Vegas. Get this: "Taxi and limo drivers (in Vegas) are subject to FBI background checks and fingerprinting while Uber and Lyft conduct private background checks with no fingerprinting, but they check background further back in history than the taxi and limo drivers. Taxi and limo drivers get random drug tests; Uber and Lyft driver maintain “zero tolerance” standards, but no testing." No drug tests for Uber! Light background checks, many former Vegas drivers who were fired have applied and got accepted as Uber drivers. I read a comment by a current driver that the ways to rip off Uber by an experienced Vegas cab driver are too many to count. There are so many backdoor deals in Vegas where they can cut out Uber because they have no cab sheet to fill out. Vegas will have the exact same drivers only they will be in their own cars. And the cab companies are reported to still be Mafia controlled, so this could get real interesting. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Exactly! I agree 100%.
I would have asked to take down his license number. At that point he probably would have aquiessed (is that spelled right?). If not, I would have tried to take it down and if he didn't let me, at least taken his license plate. In fact, I nearly got into a fist fight with a cabbie in Hawaii when I tried to take down his license number. Long story. Another reason why I have no sympathy for cab drivers. All hotels have airport shuttles, cabs have no interest in a half mile fare at the airport, it means they have to get go to the back of the line again. You could have called the cab co and the dispatcher would have sympathized with the driver, you have access to the hotel shuttle. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Or you can call Uber and get someone that wants your business, then keep giving it to them for the longer fares! The President is a fink. |

I believe the only time they can turn down a fare is for safety concerns and those must be reported to the dispatcher and then paperwork must be filed after their shift. Or you can wait 5min for the shuttle that costs nothing. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Why should you have to wait? They guy wanted to hire a cab. If I understand correctly, cabs are a form of "common carrier" and thus must accept all business. This guy refused a fare. His medallion should be suspended if he does not want to take a fare. The President is a fink. |

Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 146 Posts: 25010 | As I said, the FEW cities that have medallions, they are owned by the cab companies and they lease the cabs to the drivers. Not all places have the same rules. Most places can turn down fares at their discretion. I turned down many. Some drunk who was puking in the parking lot. A bunch of Black teens. (you learn early on that your life is worth more than a fare) A sketchy looking guy who refused to give me the money up front. Somebody who is cursing me before he even gets in. We had a list of addresses we refused to pick up from, perfectly legal. All cab co's have a list, whether they admit it or not. Even in the places that have rules about refusing a fare, it's still done all the time. Cab drivers have street smarts, idiots that they are. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
