They can't "insist" but they just buy the bar off with free swag in the form of signs, etc.

Not the same thing as bars back when the brewery owned the place.

There are several reasons for this -

they can get better pricing by agreeing to be exclusive

pepsi/coke can provide the equipment to you (soda guns and what not) with the provision that you are only allowed to dispense their product in their equipment.

A relative had a restaurant for a few years. He could get a great deal more from beer companies than from soda ones. And not everything they supplied him had to have a logo.

I'm going to present you with a deep, deep concept: the actions of a few, even a few dozen people, do not characterize an entire religion of over a billion people. I have to agree
A lot of these attacks in Africa are due to tribal differences
African countries were divided up by Europeans with no thought to tribal differences
This has caused a lot of problems in Aftica
