I think the negative impact has to be mentioned too though. Would Bill Cosby's drug fueled sex with underage teens have happened without Mr. Hefner and what he promoted? Many girl's and women's lives were negatively impacted, both directly by exploits at his "mansion" and clubs, and indirectly by the culture of promiscuity without responsibility and standard of "beauty" he actively promoted.

I'm quite sure Bill Cosby would have done what he did with or without Playboy. Hefner has always been opposed to sex without consent. Adult women are fully capable of making decisions for themselves.

Opponents of Hefner would have relished catching him in illegal activity with underage women, rape or prostitution. I'm pretty sure he knew he potentially had a target on his back. He didn't need any of that, it would have hurt him financially if not put him in jail.

I don't think he would have gone that way even if he knew there was no chance of being caught. He believed adults should be allowed to make decisions about sex for themselves.

As an aside, it is rumored a Playmate from way back when was 17 and lied about her age.

I read that when Traci Lords transformed from porn actress to legitimate actress she let it be known that most of her films were done at age 17. It was a smart move as the porn studios had to stop distributing her films or be arrested for child pornography.


James Deen is one of the few porn stars who seems to have made the transition to legitimate movies. Probably because he doesn't look like a porn star.


Shia LaBeouf started as a Disney star, then he was in some of the biggest boxoffice films, and now he seems to want to do "art house" porn in his late 20's. WTF?
