People living empty lives can care about a basketball game and find meaning for a few hours.

That's exactly how I see it. People get
ulcers over something they have no
involvement in and something they
have no control over. What a monumental
waste of time.

On their tombstones it will say:

I Watched Some Sports

With a laser image of them sitting
in front of a big screen TV.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Sports is just as meaningless as say Madmen or video games or country music
Just mindless entertainment to pass the time
Different strokes for different folks regarding entertainment

I learned a lot from Madmen, all you learn
from watching sports is it causes a craving
to watch more sports.

Organized sports started after the Civil War
in the US. Sand lot games attracted people
and somebody got the idea of building
stadiums and charging people to watch.
Phony rivalries were promoted to sell
newspapers and an industry was born. Just
another opiate for the masses, like organized
religion.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Wait a second I was just coming back to this thread to let people know that over PM Evenbob had convinced me to give up Game of Thrones. He made some good points and challenged me to think anew about watching it.

But now low and behold I see him supporting Madmen? I have never seen that show because I heard it was about adultery and cheating on wives?!? And it's not set in the fantasy world of Westeros, but here in America and depicts real life. What is going on?

Mad Men was awesome for life and business lessons. Draper was a genius most times.

But in other news The arrogant thinking of liberal sports writers. Lots of examples of how liberal sports journalists are out of the mainstream of fans. You need to not confine yourself to lamestream news sites to get this story.

This is more offensive than any comments against religion. What's next? Convince you to start smoking?

Greatest show of all time. How far have you watched, my curiosity asks?

There's some of that but it's in the
context of how unhappy married
people act sometimes. There is no
graphic sex, no violence. Whatever
sexual stuff there is, it's to make a
point, it's not the point of the show.
I don't remember, but there is little
or no nudity in the series, at least
as I recall.

133 people died gruesome deaths
in the first 4 seasons of G of T. 34
rapes happened. Gratuitous sex and
violence, it's 4 times worse in the books,
from what I've read.

Mad Men (2 words, not one) is one of the best shows of all time. I won't lie, there is plenty of sleeping around. On that ground it would get an A-III or O for a Catholic rating. This is assuming my memory on how the system worked is right and it is even still in use. If that is an issue on the surface it is what it is.

OTOH, the show is about many characters and their demons they fight with all in the junk-food-for-the-ming industry that is advertising. Even a storyline about one woman who grew up Catholic facing the modern world, thought they phase the Church part out later.

Best line has to be, "People want to be told what to do so bad they will listen to anything." But there are dozens of others.

Funny how cable has made so many great shows by breaking the 22 episode mold as well as other molds. "The Shield" probably started this, but many since.

I'm not sure I understand.

Adultery in drama, and comedy for that matter, is as old as adultery and drama, and comedy for that matter.

In total agreement with Face regarding Game of Thrones
Greatest show of all time :-)

Madmen, about meaningless advertising I have been ignoring my whole life
I never smoked cigs because the advertisements were total BS
Only the weak minded are influenced by ads.
Marlboro man, lol. Just a piece of Madison ave propaganda to be ignored
