The Indian restaurant by my house in Vegas was the same way. I loved the food but adding $8 for rice made an already pricey meal even more so. It was costing close to $80 for my wife and me and that did not include any alcohol. The Chinese restaurant next to them was very good and we would eat for $25.
$8 for rice sounds steep.
Indian Restaurant and Takeaway food is not particularly cheap here. Probably 10% - 20% or so dearer than similar Chinese. And I've never heard of free rice anywhere here. Typical Pilau rice about $4 for enough to feed two. Plain boiled rice $3

Most local Indian places give free poppadoms and dips as an entree.

Price in GBP.
1GBP = 1.3USD

Most Indian restaurants here include rice with your entree so being charged for it was unusual.

We ate at a good Indian lunch buffet, maybe five to eight or so years ago, it was located not too far off the strip in a shopping center on a main road.

Could have been this one:

The food was good, especially the nan, and IIRC we went Sunday and most of the diners seemed to be from India, enjoying a meal with their families.

Some nice choices there, but not many varieties of rice. Lacks some of the Northern Indian meals that I recognise, Typical rubbish selection of desserts.
Dinner menu looks a little expensive. All those ??.99 cents soon add up.

Apparently, rats are good eating. Sailors often hunted them for entertainment on sailing ships, and ate them as well. Reporting they tasted "nice and delicate".
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

Had ribs from Cody’s. Tasty, but a tad tough. Took 1/3 home. Microwaved the next morning and they were much more tender.

We enjoy Akbar in Garden City. Mughlai cuisine.

Indo-Asian, Mint, is nearby, but we always end up at Akbar.

Was Cody's worth going to? I have one about an hour away but their website did nothing to convince me that it would be worth an hour trip.

Do you get over to Tampa very often? I will be going at the end of January to watch a Tampa Bay Lightning against Vegas Golden Knights game. I really just want to try Ted Peter's.

I’ve been to Tampa a few years back. No reason to go unless going to football/hockey game. If I remember Ybor City was worth going to if you were already in the Tampa area. I sort of like Cody’s, but not even close to worth a one hour drive.
