I am not arguing that there wont be 100,000+ deaths from Covid, likely over the years many times that number. It is just not that big a deal in the overall scale of things. Currently 1 in 4000 people have died in the US from Covid but the population has been scared so much by the government that they will phone the police if someone gets to close to them. This is insane. The current death rate (excluding Covid) is about 9,000 per million annually. The current Covid death rate to date is 244 per million. If we multiply this number by 10 for an annual rate it is 2,440 per million, this equates to 1 in 410 people or 850,000 deaths in the US.

So that means on average you will lose 1 in 400 of your friends from Covid even at my hopefully high number.

As always, not arguing that the government response might be too restrictive for too long. But it is NOT just the raw number of deaths! Read lilredrooster's story on WoV. Read my reports from the front lines! Hospital beds in LOBBIES! In Parks! In convention centers! Deaths so rapid not enough BODY BAGS! Not enough places to STORE THE DEAD!

That all being said.... open it up! I will accept the added death toll, as the purpose of human life is NOT just to be alive. The negatives to society to me, now outweigh the benefits of saving some lives. Same reason I like the current speed limits, am for people being allowed to smoke, am for allowing people to participate in MMA, am for allowing people to ride motorcycles without helmets, etc....
Just be transparent. Make the risks clear. Allow individuals to decide on the risk they are willing to take.

It depends what you mean by "that many seem to think". The scale will assuredly be over 100,000 additional deaths..

You don't know know how
many of those would have
died from regular flu. Could
be half of them.

Just an observation about this thread during Covid. It doesn't seem to have had much if any increase in posts. Maybe the Covid deaths aren't as huge in the scale of deaths in the US that many seem to think?

There is a likely connection to wealth since this thread is usually not about everyday joe and jane.

One time, as a part of gag, he went to Los Angeles bus station with a big sign, "Welcome Actors".

He got in the same sort of trouble as Pee Wee Herman and kinda disappeared for awhile.

He has a huge resume -- minor roles all over the place for at least 50 years. I distinctly remember him from Real People. For me, he was a bit over the top and always seemed to play the same kind of goofy reporter/salesman type of character. My favorite role was probably the announcer in Best in Show.

I can't be too sad about a male reaching 86. RIP Fred.

Modern Family, Everybody Loves Raymond,
Fernwood Tonight, America 2-Night,. Fred
was never out of work, he was one of the
best character actors around. Huge dry
wit. He is in all 10 eps of the new series
Space Force that hasn't been released
yet.

I was 9 years old when Beaver
came on. We din't think he was
cool, we thought he was a
juvenile delinquent who picked
on kids smaller that him. We
hated his character.

Yeah, his role was a troublemaker, but still would be pretty tame by today's standards.
