Yeah, his role was a troublemaker, but still would be pretty tame by today's standards.

He was an LAPD motorcycle cop
for 10 years. He retired on a
full pension in 1988.

I was 9 years old when Beaver
came on. We din't think he was
cool, we thought he was a
juvenile delinquent who picked
on kids smaller that him. We
hated his character.

Leave it to Beaver was one of my favorite shows. It was on in reruns all the time when I was a kid. As much as I liked the show, I share your feelings about Eddy -- a bully and a phony. I recall often he would be picking on Beaver, then the mother would walk in, and suddenly he would turn into the perfect gentleman.

My father was also 76 when he died. I'm determined to make it well past that.

Not to doubt you, but how does one get a full pension with only ten years of service. Knowing California, I could see that happening. That is a major reason taxes are so high there -- generous pensions of state employees.

Following bit roles in Petticoat Junction, The Munsters, and Lassie, Osmond retired from acting and became a Los Angeles police officer. He remained on the forces for nearly 20 years, but retired in 1988 after being struck by a ricocheting bullet which forced him to go on disability.

But of course that was the gag. What is neat about shows that old is that at the time they were still fairly new. Today sitcoms are almost always following a format. "Wings" was "Cheers in an Airport" while "Cheers" was "Taxi in a Bar." Back then they had to figure it out.

Good luck! I am resigned to going at about age 70, based on my own actuarial table (no offense to your old profession.)

He was shot 5 times in 1980
in his bullet proof vest. Tried
to retire in 84, was refused,
sued in 88 and won. They
were probably shooting
Eddie Haskel, which is
understandable.

Grew up watching the Dick Van Dyke shows. Best episodes were with Carl himself as Alan Brady.

He was 98. Still seemed really sharp.

He was just tweeting 16 hours ago.
