Nothing to do with making excuses. The media attacks conservatives and they use the same attack every time. Call them unintelligent and if that does not work call them "racist." Does not matter that they have no backup they just keep doing it.

Republicans insisted Quayle stay on the ticket 2nd term
So that the next Republicans on deck to run for President have a fair contest
Republicans were against changing the VP on the ticket because did not want to give another republican an edge because Quayle was not going to win a nomination but a new VP might
