Two went to Nam and neither saw action.
That doesn't mean they were not scared every moment about being sent into a combat situation or some sort of ambush. One man was sent to Vietnam as a replacement and put on guard duty. He watched what he thought were South Vietnamese troops digging in a short distance away and as dusk approached he lit a cigarette. Every North Vietnamese unit had one long range sniper so his smoking meant he got the bullet right in the throat. Nobody had told him those were enemy troops and to never smoke on guard duty. In country less than eight hours... and dead. Hence the expression "don't send us no more replacements, we don't have time to bury them".

Working in a car wash is mind numbingly
boring. Did it in HS, when cars were jinormous.
Mid 60's. They hire anybody and go thru
employees on a daily basis.

Only today did I finally wonder whether those women at the beginning of Petticoat Junction were swimming naked in the drinking water tower.

But then I remembered locomotives use steam and had those supply towers near the track.

In their underwear is what I always thought.
They never would have implied nudity in
the 60's, and sisters would never do that
with each other even now.

Not an expert on petticoats, but this is what Wikipedia says about it.

Quote:
The train stop is nicknamed "petticoat junction" because the Bradley sisters often go skinny-dipping in the railway's water tower and leave their petticoats hanging over its side.[6] The opening titles of the series show their petticoats hanging on the tower[7] while they are swimming.[8][9]

They're ill informed. You don't see their bra's
and panties hanging there, do you. I'm telling
you, sisters do not go nude in front of each
other, especially then. They might do it with
their best girlfriend, but never a sister. Besides,
all their underwear would be hanging there.
It's not because they're wearing it.

Don't see their bra straps on their shoulders either. They'd have to be wearing strapless bras.

pilot episode dialogue
Willimena Josephine 'Billie Jo' Bradley #1: Ma, the train's comin'!
Kate Bradley: Yeah, I heard it.
Kate Bradley: [to her three daughters] In the water tower again, weren't you?
Elizabeth Josephine 'Betty Jo' Bradley Elliott: Yes.
Kate Bradley: Some day that train's gonna sneak in, drain all the water before you can get out and leave you high, dry and bare!

In the 60's bare could very well mean
in your underwear. They wouldn't even
let Jeanie show her navel. I'll say it again,
if their nekked, why aren't their bra's
and panties hanging there also. I've
been skinny dipping and my tidy
whities are right there with my other
clothes.

Exhibit A:

If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.
