The video is likely as boring as all home videos are, and it's mostly a half hour of me yelling at kids, but this is a neat place in my neck of the woods.

Thunder Rocks is this small area in Allegany State Park that has towering boulders lying on the ground. Few are as big as a bus. Most are bigger than houses. And the whole of them are located in a small spot less than 2 acres in area.

Geologic wonders aren't entirely uncommon in NY. We have Niagara Falls. We have the Finger Lakes. We have Long Island. But Thunder Rocks differ in one key aspect; they weren't formed by the ice age. In fact, they lie in the lone place in all of NY that was never covered by glacier. It sort of makes one wonder - how in all of the hells did these rocks get here?

I am told they are sediment from the Catskills. Yeah, that 400-mile-away mountain range located in southeast NY. Back when WNY was covered by sea, parts of the Catskills broke off and rolled westward. Over millions of years, the rocks inched westward and the Catskills eroded eastward, leaving huge rocks well away from its parent rock.

The rocks are easily reached by car traveling on dirt road. From the parking area, they are quite literally right there. There are no ropes, gates, or supervision. If you want to have a go, you have a go. I have been atop each and every one, and helped down off at least a few.

Preemptive apologies to EB for the motion sickness. I dunno how everyone else gets their vids so stable.

If you think your life is boring, buy a video
camera and confirm it. Cool place. It's
more like exposed bedrock than 'rocks'.
The place where you and your girlfriend
were standing is a great place for a house.
Include all the rock formations in the
structure, make them part of the walls. A
Frank Lloyd Wright type house.

This is the first time I've heard you speak.
It's never what you think It's going to be.
You often write eloquently, yet like many
men your verbal skills are barely above
the grunt and point level. I'm that way
also, talking is way too much work.

At least your girlfriend still smiles nicely
at you, it means you are still on the inside
track with her. When they stop smiling
like that, and they all do eventually, it's
all downhill from there.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

That's sort of what makes it so neat, because it's not. And we walked the entire area they're located in the video; it's a really small area. You can't help but get a bit lost in wonder there, even if like me you've been there 40+ times.

I'm more of a Unibomber-shack type guy. A simple cabin that blends in. Funny you mention FLW; his Graycliff Estate is not far from me. If I were to head east instead of west when I fish the lake, I'd basically be fishing in its back yard. When the Catt is raging and I fish 18 Mile instead, I fish right next to it. Too fancy for my tastes.

Pretty much. I type far more than I ever talk. I hate small talk, and find most conversation a waste. Grunts and gestures are enough for those I call friend. Real conversation is saved for job interviews and the courts =p

Oh, it was downhill. This was the first time we've really seen each other since early April. I think we're just too good a fit for each other for it to die. She speaks in grunts and gestures, too =)

I have another vid cooking up of the bike trails in the area. Figured at least Wiz might appreciate it. It's quite a stark contrast from the trails he rides =)

I go weeks not speaking to anyone, not even in
the casino. I go so long that I sometimes have to
learn to talk in complete sentences again.

I'm jealous, I haven't had a woman smile like
that at me in a long time. I'm married..

Camera shake is the curse of anyone who has made a sports or action video.

Now a company is promising an affordable stabilising device, especially for anyone who uses a GoPro camera.

Slick is a motorised steadicam that is available on crowdfunding site Indiegogo. At the moment it costs US$209

What do they charge for 20 seconds of fun.
Hope it wasn't more than 8 dollars.

I'm guessing they don't let you go through while the overhead show is going on. Though that would be cool.
