If I was to start a bucket list, going down and watching the 1000 would be on it.

Can you turn a wrench?

My bucket is to be in it. And there's no better seat in the house than shotgun! =D

I was actually thinking about you when I pushed post, wondering if you were aware of these races.

Have you seen the Vegas to Reno run? Or, how about this one.

Parker is an hour south of me. I think to run the baja would take some considerable bank, The unlimiteds are just awesome.

I can't bust wrenches No Mas my friend, but there are other functions. I can hand you the size you want? Run logistics, etc.

If I ride "shotgun" [thanks] we are going to have to have a chiropractor in the back seat along with us.

Certainly. I was big into it back in the 90's, when most of my own motorsports occurred in the woods. The Baja, the Mint, the Dakar, and one other where they ran a shorter Baja course. Never heard of Parker.

I wouldn't race it today. Too brutal. I've done off road races down the same sort of wild, ungroomed trails, and it's not a picnic. I can run hard all day, but racing I can't only do but 5 minutes at a time. Even if my body can take it, my mind wears out. Too much to concentrate on, too much to compute lol.

I would love to compete in it as an endurance trial, though. Just go hard and try to make it, regardless of position. Handing off tools is good enough. Throw in a "yee-haw!" every now and again, and we're almost there. Find $800k for the ride and its spares, and we have a deal =)

There are still people who do it "old school" in a VW bug, start to finish. For the joy of doing it.

Reign Over Me on Netflix. Adam Sandler and
Don Cheadle hit it out of the park with this one.
No violence, no sex, just a great story and acting.
I cared about these people almost immediately,
not an easy thing to do in a movie. Adam Sandler
can really deliver when he has to, and Don Cheadle
never disappoints.

"Killer Klowns from Outer Space"

Always tricky for a movie to try to be too campy, but this one succeeds. Quite funny; I was surprised to see some older actors, I hadn't realized how old it was [1988]. The guy who played Dean Wormer was in it. Not sure how this movie escaped my attention all these years.

I also find the phenomenon of "fear of clowns" fascinating, even though I myself am unaffected .

Killer Klowns $2M Budget, Gross $15.6M (USA) $28.0M (Non-USA)
Mars Attacks $70M Budget, Gross $37.8M (USA) $63.6M (Non-USA)

Mars Attacks had Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Annette Bening, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Martin Short, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michael J. Fox, Rod Steiger, Tom Jones, Lukas Haas, Natalie Portman, Jim Brown, and Lisa Marie.

It's probably better business to make a campy movie without the high priced talent (even if they have short roles). Better chance of turning a profit.

Has anyone seen The Giver yet? I've heard it is awesome, with a powerful message.

No, but the trailer reminded me of a more serious version of Pleasantville.

No, but the general feeling among critics is it deserves credit for taking on the novel, but it does a poor job of putting the message on screen. So you should just read the novel.

Sometimes the movie is different than the play, show, or novel on which it is based. It is different, but it is equally powerful. The Elephant Man, Grease, To Kill a Mockingbird, One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, Amadeus are good examples. This adaptation does not seem to fall into that category.
