That would be Frasier without Frasier. Sheldon is the entire show. I find the other characters bland beyond belief, everything is bounced off the eccentric Sheldon. Penny and the one with the loud mom make me wince when they speak. The Indian guy is OK, as is Sheldon's GF. The dwarf who's married to guy with the loud mom has a voice like fingernails on a blackboard. I have seen a hundred ep's of this show and know none of their names except Sheldon and Penny. That tells me what I think right there. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Sheldon might work, but he'd have to surround himself with similar characters (part of why Frasier worked). Bernadette would be a great character for a spinoff, minus Howard. Think. A pretty, girlish, sweet woman with the potential temper of an atom bomb on a bad day and a mean, evil streak to match. Howard would just get in the way. Next logical question is which actor will manage to star in a successful show. No doubt Kaley Cuoco, Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki(sp?) will all have a better chance, as they are the A-team in the bunch. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

Well according to Forbes, Jim Parsons and Johnny Galeckiare respectively #1 and #2 on their highest paid TV actors list, and Kaley Cuoco is #1 on the actress list. Jim Parsons has a broadway play, a successful Disney voice role, and some respectable films. I can't see why Jim Parsons will do any TV regular character after his 10 years are done. Not Sheldon Cooper, for any amount of money. He has an opportunity to try and become a big movie or broadway star. He can always come back to TV later on. Johnny Galecki has never had a major role in the movies and Kaley Cuoco has never worked on a big film in her life. The problem is that TBBT could lose almost half their audience and still be the biggest sitcom on TV. Assuming Jim Parsons will only do one or two guest shots, the networks will try to keep the show in some fashion. If none of the big three will stay in their roles, then they will give it some cute name like "A Big Bang Alternative: The Cosmological Principle" and continue it with the minor characters. |

I said earlier that growing kids is the kiss of death for a sitcom. All the kids on MF are now abults, except the Vietnamese girl. And now that she's about 10, she's no longer funny. This season is not as funny, and they're signed for another season after this one. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Pacomartin Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 1068 Posts: 12569 | The Big Bang Theory (TBBT) is dropping in ratings so that for the 18-49 demographic it is the same as five seasons ago. However older people are still watching it (not as many as two years ago). But everything else on TV is dropping even faster, so there seems to be no question that it will finish it's run on the top of the Sitcom rank. Black-ish, which was the biggest hit sitcom last year, is dropping fast. Goldbergs is in season #3 and is improving, so it is very likely to create enough shows to go into syndication, but extremely unlikely to catch TBBT by next year. Dramas like Empire are doing much better with young viewers, and old standby dramas like NCIS are doing better with older viewers. It is starting to look like CBS must retain the show in some fashion (reduced cast or spin-off or awesome salaries) after year #10. It is too important to other shows on the schedule (Life in Pieces follows TBBT).

Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 146 Posts: 25013 | Last Man is drawing 1.25? Why is it even on the air. Watching the first season of Modern Family again and even though I know every episode by heart, I still laugh out loud at times. I never do that anymore on the last couple of seasons. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Network Television 1948-2015 CBS recently announced that it was bringing back the series Star Trek but not for the CBS network, for a streaming video on demand system called CBS All Access. In lieu of flowers, CBS has requested that mourners send them six bucks a month." |

"Last Man" could refer to "Last Man Standing" or "The Last Man on Earth". ABC and NBC put comedies on Friday nights where they are simply not expected to have high ratings. If the ratings are passable, they try to make the profit in the long term by selling the show into syndication after four years. Friday Night Shows
If you mean "The Last Man on Earth", that is a FOX network show. Fox maintains only 19.5 hours of programming per week (no 10PM) show, and when network TV viewing began collapsing, they basically make their money on Football and one uber successful show like "American Idol" or "Empire". The company is invested heavily in cable television, and seems to be the last one to be developing a streaming service. Other than "The Simpsons", FOX has not had a widely successful sitcom since the year 2006.
