Robin Williams dies at 63 of apparent suicide

Wow. Never cared for the guy's brand of humor, but seeing this in today's headlines was a shocker.

RIP

My god!

He's been talking about how screwed up he is
for years. He did massive amounts of coke
in the 80's and 90's and booze always. Heavy
duty coke users do a number on their heart,
and he was manic depressive. One or the other
was bound to get him.

He was doing so well it seemed for awhile being out of rehab. But he has been very bad the last couple of years.

Despite having it all, money, wife, children, sometimes mental illness takes a life. It's very sad how people that we admire end up losing their live because they feel so utterly depressed that they decide to end it all.

But his money was mostly gone because his two
ex wives took most of it. Some who knew him are
saying he was near bankruptcy from debt. And
his TV show was cancelled 3 months ago and
he took it to mean his career was over, despite
being in 6 movie projects this year alone.

His first divorce was in 88, but he had huge
alimony and support payments. His divorce
in 08 cost him 30mil.

John Cleese has had to deal with depression and alimony for the last decade as well... his last world tour was designed to pay off the divorce. At one point, if he died, his step children were entitled to more of his estate than his natural children.

The end it all is often the way out from the deep dark blackness that prevades and hurts (mentally) so much. Pills just don't cure it or even make it go away. There's often no easy answers to depression and suicide, no one thing someone could have done. Material possessions can no more solve it than pray cures cancer.

I was wondering about the same thing right off the bat. They're saying he was a mess, but was able to snap out of it when they said action. I'm sure the thoughts of gloom weren't helped by the situation he had though. When you're overwhelmed with thoughts, you're overwhelmed and it's hard escaping them. He might have been worried about his body not wanting to go through cirrhosis or what not if the case may be.

Yeah, but with Robin in six projects, I am sure there was plenty of money for him to spend. Surely, he wasn't forced to eat at Taco Bell. His equity in his two homes, for example, totalled more than $25M. He got paid $165K/episode for the Crazy Ones, according to Forbes.

He was as much near bankruptcy as Hillary was in 2008. Poor thing.

Yeah it sucks to be divorced twice and to have to pay a crapload of alimony. He's half-responsible for that. No excuse or reason to hang yourself. Many of us have support payments and things that we have to pay as a result of failed relationships and children.

As brilliant as he was, he was dogged by alcohol and drug abuse which messed up his brain chemistry and led to this tragic event.

He's still supporting his 2 ex's with alimony,
it's Calif remember. Every report I read says
he was deeply in debt.

The reports say he was dealing with depression. That's what killed him, or led him to suicide. To be sure there were other factors involved, but it's unfair to portray him as a self-indulgent rich guy who just couldn't take the rigors of life.
