The United States presidential election of 1984 between the incumbent President Ronald Reagan, the Republican candidate, and former Vice President Walter Mondale, the Democratic candidate. Reagan carried 49 of the 50 states. Of course, Richard Nixon also carried 40 of the 50 states in 1972, only to resign two years later.  There certainly is a strong attempt to make president's iconic, but the phrase "cult of personality" is almost always used to describe totalitarian leaders. |

Landslide? It's been 28 years since the winner broke 53% of the popular vote! They will spend billions dollars and a handful of people in a few states will determine the outcome.
