It is that simple.

If you really want to keep people out, you'll need to build the wall about 500 yards inside US territory. This is so you can have a clear demarcation zone indicating entry into the US. Every few meters, you'll want a watch tower with a machinegun. Also soldiers on the US side of the wall on constant patrol, and willing to shoot indiscriminately. Maybe a few land mines on the demarcation area to scare immigrants off.

Think how much that would cost and what the domestic and international reaction will be.

Think, too, what it will accomplish: nothing.

Why nothing? Well, have you seen how much coastline America has? Immigrants can, and will, use boats to get into the US if the land border becomes a big version of the Berlin Wall. Try securing thousands of miles of coastline with a wall.

That is why I usually enjoy your post Nareed. Those are practical reasons why the wall should never be built. I also believe that Trump was never serious about building a wall and I never expect one to materialize. But to believe that Trump was stupid because of the proposal is not debate but arrogance on the side of the left.

Who calls Trump "stupid?" There are plenty of nasty adjectives for him, but that isn't really one of them.

I think anyone who truly believes him when he says he will build a wall and will be able to get Mexico to pay for it may not be the brightest crayon in the box...

You seem to be one of the Trump supporters who knows his positions are full of crap but doesn't really care. It's more about his attitude and demeanor. I can somewhat respect that.

As for those supporters who actually think he's going to be able to ban all Muslims from entering the US, I have no respect for their intelligence.

I don't believe Trump is stupid (would that were the problem!). I believe the people who want to vote for him are. As proof witness the enthusiasm they've showed for such a moronic idea as the wall.

Then, too, Trump keeps proposing things which are idiotic or at least unwise and completely irresponsible. Like thinking he can welch on the US debt in order to renegotiate it downwards. See how well that's worked for Greece. Have you any idea the economic impact debt default by the US would cause over the entire world?

Really, anyone contemplating voting for this clown cannot possibly be thinking clearly. Ergo the name-calling.
