Why would you care? You're free to believe anything you want. Why fret over what others believe? How about "live and let live." (Don't worry it's not in the bible)

I care that religion is teaching people to be hateful and intolerant of people with different views, or when someone claims to be a follower of a religion who then expresses views and opinions which do not agree with the religion that they claim to be a part of.

Live and let live isn't good enough.

When someone goes and kills 49 people, and you have religious figures from two different religions praising him, that is a big problem.

By the way, I never said hell exists. Haters do like to characterize others don't they?

So, you think people deserve hell, and you think it is an awful fate, but you don't think hell exists?

There are no "rules" that send people to hell. Everyone who has ever lived except for Christ Himself deserves hell, we can't change that. It's by Gods grace alone that people escape that awful fate.

Dalex take a quick gander at the tone of these discussions and see if you can sense who is being hateful and intolerant?

It is a big problem for any religion or ideology that would praise something like what happened in Orlando. I just preached this weekend about how we are all one family in God. The second reading was St. Paul talking about in Christ there is no jew or greek, male or female, slave or free, and we went through a whole litany of God's unconditional love. There is no gay or straight, no immigrant or citizen, no black or white, sick or healthy, born or unborn, rich or poor, we are all one in Christ Jesus. So at least we have one and actually this weekend I am sure there were thousands and thousands of religious figures like me rejecting in no uncertain terms what happened in Orlando.

Evenbob, I don't know why you get so upset about the undeniable fact that salvation is a free gift offered to you by Christ.

If you like the free library analogy that can work. The doors to the library Christ has opened for you are never closed, all you have to do is come in. You and others said that it is not a free gift if it is true that if you don't accept the gift or come in then you are punished. Well if you don't step foot in the library you punish yourself by not learning and experiencing all that a great library has to offer. However, there is a reason it is much more important to enter this free library than just the high quality education and joy you will experience. The main reason is that there is a zombie apocalypse going on. That is right, if you don't come in to the library there is some awful zombies called hedonism, greed, power, relativism, materialism, immorality, and lots more that will eat you alive. God is not punishing you if you don't come inside but the monsters will get you.

Unless you're Gay and want to get married
in the Church. Then it's not quite the one
big happy family they want you to think it
is.

You really believe there's a hell where
you're punished forever for insulting
some god with your puny insignificant
thoughts and actions? Wow, you must
really be important. I'm way to happy
to invent a god where I'm the most
important thing in his life. I think far
more of myself than that. Attend some
self esteem classes and get a better
attitude.

I was going to let this slide, but it needs to be pointed out that there are lots of inconsistencies here. First of all as I've said many times if someone loves you greatly than all your actions are significant to him or her. Have you ever seen a grandma attend a first grade ballet recital? In the grand scheme of things this recital is insignificant, but for nonna it is the most important thing in the world.

Then you say that you think far more of myself than someone who would think that he or she is the most important thing to God. How does that work? Who should attend self-esteem classes, someone who believes and knows that God loves and cares for them or someone who thinks they are no more significant or important than a cockroach?

A free gift with caveats and conditions is
not free. Your so called 'free' gift is loaded
with conditions you have to meet before
it kicks in. You know all this far better than
I do. Your free gift is the same thing as
the free dinner you get to listen to a 2
hour hard sell on timeshares in Florida.
It's not free, you have to trade 2 hours of
your life for it.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Absolutely not! There are no conditions you have to meet and no caveats, come on in!

Yes, I am being intolerant. Why should we tolerate what happened? Why should I tolerate his views?

There are people out there preaching hate and intolerance in the name of their religion. Why would you expect me to accept that?

Yes, I am intolerant of those views, because those views led to those actions.

So we're 'saved' if we don't accept Jesus as
the son of god? That's not a condition of the
'free' gift? Really?
