I guess that's the real difference: democrats are more altruistic than republicans, and less self-centered.

If it's not Global Warming, it will be the Sun Death. If not the Sun Death, then it'll be some crazy b*****d who should never be put in charge of whether or not Nukes get fired deciding to do it.

The whole concern with long-term problems, such as global warming, stems from the underlying notion that the continued survival and propagation of the human species has some sort of inherent value---it doesn't. We're a species like any other and, given enough time, will have completed our life cycle and will end up extinct, like any other.

Some generation will be there when it happens and will have to experience a, "Screwed up," time; it's an inevitability. Why is later better than sooner? Maybe you have an answer to that, but I certainly can't think of one.

I think it's possible for someone to be more altruistic AND more self-centered, but yeah, maybe Dems are slightly more altruistic on the whole. I'm neither a Democrat nor a Republican, so I have no dog in that fight.

I also don't believe that there is any such thing as absolute, "Altruism." I tend to be a very giving and generous person in my personal affairs, especially when it comes to strangers, but I don't think it's out of any pure sense of altruism. If I make someone else happy, especially in a way that they didn't expect, then I must be getting some sense of satisfaction or pride out of it, or something else, or one should assume I wouldn't do it.

Perfect altruism would require a person to, at least occasionally, act against their own self-interests. I tend to think of such behavior as both illogical, and therefore, somewhat unlikely. Instead, I tend to believe the altruistic actor is getting something out of it, just not something that is necessarily physically material.

I'm neither religious nor a Republican, just to clarify. I don't deny Global Warming. I don't think the current Global Warming, "Crisis," can not be delayed somewhat. I simply don't care.

Mankind has 1000 years left. Then it is over. Ever lower fertility rates insure this. China may eventually force women to have kids I just heard, the one-child thing worked far too well and the fertility rate would have just fallen a few years later. A lesson in what happens when government plans things.

What has happened with global warming is that too many people think things are going to end because they do not think for themselves. Fear mongering commercials with people in all kinds of bad weather make people think it will be like one sudden hurricane. People are literally afraid to live their lives.

We have many things more important to worry about that we can control.

Ho hum. There is nothing biologically that makes us cookie cutter replicants. Some guys get more masculine attributes more naturally than others. There's variation within the sex itself even when two males or females are considered classically "normal" not just at the extremes.

I believe in adapt or die. Why would I care if future generations don't adapt. It is all biology to me.
