I'm wondering if the SCOTUS slow resolution of some major issues is because of a hold-out. It could be good news/bad news for the Democrats. Bad, because of a terrible decision, but good if the electorate is reenergized.

It is said that SCOTUS opinions drop when the writing of the opinion is finished. The justices give dissenters the courtesy of enough time to prepare their dissent before releasing their decision. The actual voting on a particular case happens weeks or months before the decision is reached, and then the process of writing the opinions start. There are no hold-outs. The justices have had an issue in front of them for months in the form of petitions, motions, responses, friend of the court briefs, and possibly the views of the United States.

I just got off the phone with my Dad, we don't really talk politics much, but Presidential election briefly came up, and who would have been better than Biden or Trump. And on the topic of Kamala Harris (for the Democrat side,) I said she would probably struggle to win the nomination (and in fact did in 2020) because she is simply not popular (I personally like her.) And, my Dad said yes because a large portion of Democrats are unsophisticated, prejudice, rednecks who would have an issue with her demographics..... I think he is getting the parties mixed up..... Though in his defense he did talk about how modern Christians are destroying the Republican party and its crazy that people think Trump is the ultimate Christian, so he was about 50/50.

I thought about this a bit before answering. Several critics of the court on the Trump immunity case seem to think they could have already made all their various dissertations. True of not, I don't know. Let's see how complex the final rendering of the decisions will be. Will it really justify all the time taken. It has been pointed out the Nixon immunity case was done in much less time.
