The fact that politics was indirectly involved means very little to me as a retired attorney. I don't care whether the DA was republican or democrat so long as the case went by the numbers and it most certainly did. Trump had a fair hearing and was found to be a felon. Should be case closed, except for all his followers who whine "stolen election" and "lawfare" rather than admit they've been conned. |

The conditions: they MUST remain gainfully employed; They must not commit any crimes as serious as a gross misedemeanor or felony; They can NEVER qualify for citizenship, nor can any child they spawn born here; They can NEVER qualify for or receive any government benefits, including welfare, SNAP, social security disability and medicaid; If injured on the job they would participate in worker's comp, and their employers would pay to cover them, same as for a citizen; and They need not pay federal, state or city income tax on wages, or they pay at a much reduced rate. |

I don't know why they don't do what they do with most punishments. They look at the offense and other factors and the punishments are based on a number of factors. A minor offense can get a worse punishment because of aggravating circumstances like previous convictions. But also the opposite can happen and a person can get credit that reduces the sentence. Actually, yes...sometimes I AM on dope; but back to the issue at hand... Lots of them get paid under the table anyway for doing the hard, nasty work that American citizens feel is beneath them, so my proposal at least in part recognizes the current status quo. But the main reason for wetbacks paying little or no income tax would be because of the proposed trade off, i.e. they'd be ineligible for most of the benefits which real Americans can enjoy, e.g. citizenship for themselves or their kids, welfare, SNAP, SSI / Social Security, medicaid / free health care and the like. Basically they'd be wholly self-supporting "guest workers" who can only stay here if they work hard and are on good behavior. |

A true "guest worker" program would be a good thing for the USA. But income tax has to be paid. Why should an American pay and a guest not? Guest workers would not be counted in the census, which would put liberals against such a program. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |
