I've just started to hear about 'seed oils' being bad, I think this is new thinking, while previously they were considered good.

My wife is a fan of canola oil, a seed oil that is definitely one of the ones to avoid with this new to me thinking. I don't know if I can undertake a campaign to wise her up, prevailing is always in question and there is a price to pay. Plus I'm not sure if the next thing we hear is that it's considered good again.

The main concern with seed oils is their high content of omega-6 fatty acids, which can contribute to inflammation when consumed in excess, especially when combined with the highly processed nature of many seed oils, potentially leading to health issues like heart disease, cancer, and dementia if consumed in large quantities; additionally, their instability when heated can create harmful compounds like trans fats and lipid peroxides.
Key points about seed oils:

High Omega-6 content:
Seed oils like corn oil, soybean oil, and sunflower oil are rich in omega-6 fatty acids, which can promote inflammation when consumed in large amounts relative to omega-3 fatty acids.

Processing and instability:
Industrial seed oils often undergo extensive processing, making them highly unstable and prone to oxidation when exposed to heat and light, potentially creating harmful compounds.
Potential health concerns:
Some studies link excessive consumption of seed oils to chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer, and metabolic syndrome due to their inflammatory potential.
Impact on the environment:
The large-scale cultivation of crops used for seed oils can contribute to deforestation due to the need for extensive land use.

Important to note:

Not all seed oils are equal:
While some seed oils may be more problematic than others, moderation is key in any diet.

Scientific debate exists:
While concerns about seed oils are prevalent, not all researchers agree on the extent of their negative health effects, with some studies indicating that moderate consumption is not harmful.

Alternatives to seed oils:
Olive oil, Avocado oil, Coconut oil, and Tallow

What is the unhealthiest seed oil?

The eight industrial toxic seed oils are Canola, Corn, Cottonseed, Soy, Sunflower, Safflower, Grapeseed, and Rice bran. Industrial seed oils are the highly processed oils extracted from soybeans, corn, rapeseed (canola), cottonseed and sunflower and safflower seeds.

As it turns out, congestion in one side of your nose happens for a specific reason — to help balance out airflow between your nasal pathways. But in some cases, it may be a sign of other medical conditions.

Otolaryngologist Michael Benninger, MD, further explains why we sometimes get congested in one nostril, what to look out for and how to find relief.

Why is only one nostril clogged?
First, it’s important to know that one side of your nose getting clogged is actually a normal part of your nasal cycle. This is a cycle of congestion and decongestion that your nasal pathways go through to manage airflow.

“Many people don’t realize that every four to six hours, one side of the nose becomes more congested, and the other side decongests,” explains Dr. Benninger. “They switch back and forth in a normal cycle.”

The guy banging the block with two big mallets on ancient galley ships to coordinate the rowers is likely not accurate. But, the actual methods aren't entirely clear either, though it might have been songs from the rowers themselves. In battle, it was likely one guy because controlling boat movements became very important.

That said, I always enjoyed the depiction of usually a big burly lout hitting those things with such force.

The triremes gave way to the larger quadriremes and quinqueremes, which later gave way to the liburna and then the dromon (both types of galleys) and then, in the 12th Century AD, the Italian galley.

The trireme never really went away until seafarers learned how to tack into the wind, which meant the oars could come off the ship. Probably the 15th century or so with the introduction of the caravel,

there's a commercial I'm seeing a lot for mushroom coffee. It's done in a cutesy way that turns me off, but I guess a different type of ad might appeal to me, since I like mushrooms and the idea they are good for you [I don't buy all the claims unreservedly]

Are mushroom coffees actually good for you?
... research shows that mushroom coffee made with cordyceps has more antioxidants than regular coffee. The antioxidants in mushroom coffee are linked to benefits, such as: Supporting immunity: Antioxidants help the immune system function well, which helps protect you from illness
__

Mushroom coffee typically does contain caffeine, but usually less than a regular cup of coffee. It's made by blending ground coffee beans with extracts from medicinal mushrooms. While some brands offer completely caffeine-free options, the majority incorporate coffee and thus caffeine, just in a lower dose

There's a fungus among us. I think JFK agrees that it's mostly processed food that is the bane of our existence. And I don't mean just chopped up.

Probably more important that we get away from that, than the particular foods.

The word "mesmerize" comes from the name of the 18th-century Austrian physician Franz Anton Mesmer, who practiced a controversial form of medicine called mesmerism. Mesmer treated patients using what he believed was a healing force called "animal magnetism," and his methods led to patients entering trance-like states. His name was Latinized to "mesmerize" by a follower, and the term was later adopted to mean "to hypnotize" or "to fascinate".

I don't think JFK nor his son have much to say on the matter, except perhaps during a seaunce
