So is that good or bad? If a company can make the same number of widgets with half the workforce because AI has done the tasks the half fired used to do but at a fraction of the cost, isn’t that what businesses are supposed to do?

No one starts a business in order to create jobs. They start a business to make a profit.

Why, you think the more unemployment the better?

It's good for the company. But aren't we told that corporate and personal income taxes on the high earners, also called by the GOP as "job creators" supposed to, you know, create jobs? And aren't tariffs supposed to restore all these manufacturing and tech jobs lost overseas? I mean, isn't that what you all and Donny said?

First answering Rx. No, more unemployment is not ‘better’. There are a gazillion jobs available. Shortage of electricians. Plumbers. Teachers. Anesthesiologists. Nurses. Air traffic controllers. Etc…. Get trained for a job that AI won’t eliminate.

Tariffs just, in general, will favor US jobs over foreign jobs. Won’t do ANYTHING to change the overall trajectory that automation/AI is on. Two forces working against each other. Nothing ‘Donny’ or any politician can do about job loss due to AI’s success.

Tell me this. If Meta (Facebook) is able to put out the exact same product but now only needs 10 total employees, is that bad or good?

We need them to work at low wages in the fields so our food won't rot and inflation won't get worse.

Woo Hoo the fun never stops:

4 killed in latest strike on alleged drug boat off Latin America, Pentagon says
Quote:
The U.S. military continued its assault on what it claims are drug-running boats off the coastal waters of Latin America with another strike Thursday that the Pentagon said killed four people.

The strike in the Eastern Pacific was ordered by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, U.S. Southern Command said in a social media post that included unclassified video of the attack.

for turtledick: You do know that Admiral Holsey is still the head of U.S. Southern Command, whose forces are conducting the strikes, You do know that under his command there have been at least 22 strikes on vessels. I believe that there have been approx 10-15 strikes since he "announced" his resignation. If he really wanted to "refuse" Hegseth's illegal orders" and "stand up for the Constitution" why didn't he resign his command immediately in October instead of continuing to, as of today, remain in command??? Also, can you provide a source which provides Admiral Hosley's statement regarding his reason for resigning?

Tariffs, at the current level, will have a negative impact on manufacturing employment in the US. It's still cheaper to import from overseas. Tariffs would have to double to bring back jobs. Furthermore, some tariffs are just out of spite and stupid, like tariffs on certain products from Brazil because Donny thinks Bolsonaro should still be President after his attempted coup.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Wednesday released a study that found that artificial intelligence can already replace 11.7% of the U.S. labor market, or as much as $1.2 trillion in wages across finance, health care and professional services.

The study was conducted using a labor simulation tool called the Iceberg Index, which was created by MIT and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The index simulates how 151 million U.S. workers interact across the country and how they are affected by AI and corresponding policy.

The Iceberg Index, which was announced earlier this year, offers a forward-looking view of how AI may reshape the labor market, not just in coastal tech hubs but across every state in the country. For lawmakers preparing billion-dollar reskilling and training investments, the index offers a detailed map of where disruption is forming down to the zip code.

Always been thus and so, going back to the Industrial Revolution and even before.
