I've read estimates that domestic cats, and presumably stray ones as well, kill billions of city birds each year. I'm sure dogs do their bit, too.
And hopefully both do in some rats along the way as well.
Actually 'ratting' used to be a gentlemen's hobby somewhat akin to cock fighting. Its the reason that one breed of dog was developed, what I used to call Jack Daniel Terrorists. The study of cats was conducted in the UK among households that shelter a cat during the day but put him out at night. Any items he brought home were plastic baggied and frozen for the scientist. When tallied it was found that cats did kill some 'good' creatures but they routinely put quite a dent in the mouse and rat populations. And of course I'm sure you remember the video of Bakersfield Cat that took on a 55 pound dog in defense of his family's son...and won the battle. Cats and dogs are often the first baby sitters a mother 'hires' for they allow her to 'longer leash'. Nature can be cruel but it can always be marvelously mysterious.

The TV is on in the other room and I heard announcement that Madonna will do a tribute to Prince later.

Is she going to come out dressed as Prince?

Otherwise, this program is trending too young for me. (Billboard Music Awards.)

When religious people take an ordinary, everyday event, such as conception, and proclaim it a miracle, I'm reminded of naked savages awe-struck at seeing their reflection in a mirror.

She will probably do a bunch of Prince songs
I saw Leftover Salmon the same day Bill Monroe died, they did a bunch of Bill Monroe tunes as a tribute
I was at a music festival when it was announced Levon Helm died
Many performers did Levon Helm songs as a tribute
I was in Central Park NYC the day George Harrison died
All the Beatle fans gathered at Strawberry Fields across from the Dakota to sing Beatles songs as a tribute

Very Vey common in the music business

I'm convinced more every day that rhetoric should be formally taught in schools again.

I once had many comics. Some like this one, I bought just for the cover. "Plunge into the depths of DESPAIR"
"See if there is anything good on...
"Why bother?"

This comic was from about 1980 if it's
50 cents. When I was a comic fan in
the late 50's, all of them were a dime.
But there were places you could to do
even trades, like a branch library. So
I ended up reading a lot of them.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

You pays your money and you takes your chance

Boxers can die in the ring or wind up punch drunk.

Speakeasy drinkers often had severe neurological problems by the thousands.

I was not really sure what BMX was but I think its some sort of fat tire obstacle and stunt course. He attained stardom. Apparently that meant something to him. Perhaps it also meant something to Wheaties. I don't know. Stars are of little relevance to me. Particularly in sports. Is killing yourself because you won different than killing yourself because you lost?

I think I read three comic books in my life.
