FOREWORD BY PAT SAJAK!

From review

Quote:
She rambles on and on; she might start with a description of her day and end up somehow giving the reader her favorite crochet patterns (no I'm not kidding). She also has some classic 80s beauty and diet tips -- everything from skipping breakfast to keep your weight down, to pushing back your cuticles every day in the shower -- none of which are advisable now. And she faithfully lists every activity she participated in, pageant she competed in, and boy she dated in high school. You're left thinking, "Surely these details are important. She would not have included them otherwise, right?" But no, I assure you -- they're not. One has to wonder what amount of 80s-grade cocaine the editors were on, allowing her to include all of these seemingly useless factoids.

That being said, some parts of the book are actually interesting, even by my jaded millenial standards

Buying airline tickets is so frustrating.

I bought a couple of tickets from Las Vegas to Glasgow on a direct flight for $799 each roundtrip. I thought that was a very good price. Today I check and they are $599. I hate the thought that I just wasted $400.

Wouldn't Kayak have showed you the Galwegian price trend each year?

I've heard that if you check your flight availability before you need it a couple times an algorithm may conclude that you're not buying because of the price and lower it on a future attempt.

My experience has been the opposite. If you keep checking the price tends to go up unless you clear your cookies.

I must admit I have never heard of a Galwegian Price Trend, but I will research it.

Sorry.

Galwegian: of or pertaining to Glasgow, particularly relating to the people of Glasgow who were augmented to the gills by the influx of starving Irish during the Potato Famine years where the life of an Irish man was worth little and the body of Irish girl could be had for a pittance. In the Loyalist song Their Famine is Over, Why Don't They Go Home, there is specific reference to Glasgow which took so many Irish refugees fleeing from the famine and the English laws that worsened it. There is also the references to 'evil spawn' and 'evil seed' and to the supposed but unlike acts of fueling Uboats during WW2. It shows the distinct class relationships and poverty that persist in Glasgow.

I would recommend Stella Does Tricks and Trainspotting for the mood setting and economics, but remember, much of what is depicted as Glasgow was actually shot in Edinburgh.

Kayak used to specialize in showing price trends until it was bought out. after that, I'm not sure.
