Shatner is beloved, not because of his great range of acting skills, but he was original and good enough.

Good enough 40 years ago is no longer
relevant. Chris Pine is an actor, something
Shatner never was. What did any of the
actors on the orig show do, except Trek.
Shatner had a few forgettable series, trying
to keep his toupe in place.

He's also revered as the founder of the "Shatner.SchoolOf. Dramatic....Pauses" :)

I'm not putting down Chris Pine. I enjoyed his Kirk just fine.

However, as usual, I take most of your opinions with a grain of salt. I've gone through a few pounds of salt.

I enjoyed Shatner on Star Trek the original TV series. Was a huge fan. I also read all the book treatments of the original series episodes.
Also loved Mission Impossible the original TV series. Thought Leonard Nimoy did a great job on that show. Was a huge fan. I was thrilled at the time when Nimoy was added to the series after Star Trek.
True opinions, no salt added :-)

Are you forgetting "T.J. Hooker"? egads EB.... it was one of the best shows on T.V.

Okay, maybe just because it had Heather Locklear in her prime:

I'd slide over the hood of a patrol car for her...hehe

One of the worst shows ever, even Shatner's
toupe's were a letdown.

I saw Star Trek Beyond last night.

I didn't care for it much. The direction sucked. During the action scenes, I could barely tell what was happening.

The sets looked cheap. (Maybe they were going for an original series-vibe?)

Reddit fanboys mention many callouts to the series Enterprise. Did you notice that?

That's about it. The one on TV, the one
that had Whoopsie Goldberger in it, was
so bad I never saw an entire episode.
Or Start Trek Deep Sixed Nine, that was
even worse. Stupid stories, horrible
acting. Put a costume on an actor, the
costume does all the acting.

Well, it can be distracting. Anyway, I'll take the residuals from the "unsuccessful" 50 years of Star Trek and spin-offs which still continues to this day.
