Traveling all over the country seeing everything for myself
I've seen more homelessness in other cities
I observed no crime issues
No doubt it exists
But
I felt fine walking all over the city unarmed
Never scared
Felt safe
I know where not to walk such as
SE DC would be a scary place to walk.
Where I walked in Frisco, and I do a lot of walking, felt safe

I've been in some neighborhoods with really bad reputations I've hung out inside 8 mile in Detroit. I picked up Marine recruits to take them for transportation to boot camp in the worst parts of DC. I never really felt fear; I just knew to be aware of my surroundings and have a plan for getting out of dodge. That was part of my job and I did it as necessary. No problem. Would I go there on vacation? No.

I feel like San Francisco has a lot of beauty but it is not a place I want to go again right now. That does not negate anything about your experience and neither of us need to defend or attack the other's feeling about the city. Go back. Have fun. Enjoy. did you see the "Full House" place? Lots of great things to see all over the city.

Meanwhile CVS & Walgreens close stores in SF.
Target reduces hours to curb theft.
Yet somehow one wanderer thinks his "experience" represents the crime reality in SF.
Love that "Frisco" reference as well. A true sign of someone really in touch with San Francisco.
Picked that up talking to the locals did ya?

I guess there are also some stores in California putting even relatively cheap items behind lock and key as a result of all of the shoplifting and the Government's apparent unwillingness to do anything about it.

I mean, that's the nice thing about when states and lower jurisdictions get to decide things for themselves, right? You get to see what policies work and what policies are, almost objectively, terrible ideas.

I was mostly visiting Marin County
A lot of rain that week
Only got into the city one day
Took the ferry in
Walked around downtown ferry area
Ubered to Haight Ashbury and walked all over that neighborhood
Ubered to fisherman's wharf
Walked all over that area
Took the long walk along the waterfront all the way to the ferry
Wonderful
There isn't a city I would not visit

She's Looney Tunes. The only area where I prefer MTG over AOC is that MTG is Looney Tunes in a funny way, sometimes, whereas AOC is annoying 100% of the time.

I've been to San Francisco once in my life, X-mas day, 1976.

I'd hitch hiked down the Oregon / California coast and spent X-mas eve in a YMCA in Berkeley.

Took the BART to down SF; immediately upon climbing the stairs to street level some hippy/dippy guys surrounded me, singing / chanting; I was about to blow them off when a woman came up to me and said "Watch out, they're Moonies."

I figured "Moonies, eh? This should be interesting."

I let them take me to their HQ, a big, sprawling old home near a park; spent the day with them, "just because."

Eventually they tried to get me into their van or bus to take me to their place in the country but I refused; they were very insistent, but as I could and would have beaten the holy tar out of them I finally just walked away.

Weird; weird like when I represented a guy in a contested divorce, and his wife ran of to live in Rajneeshpuram, the stupid judge ordered him to pay maintenance, even though all the money went to the Bhagwan.

Strange days indeed.

Good move not getting in that van
Outside Grateful Dead shows in the parking lot was cult central recruiting
They would follow the band around just like us Deadheads
but of course they never went in. Just there to recruit
One had a huge maroon bus on tour. Some commune out Vermont I think. Very traditional dress.
At every single show.
Also had the Rainbow cult. Hare Krishnas ect
Kind of absurd but it was what it was

Those groups recruit, have you give up whatever you own, then you go out and panhandle or recruit. That's what I seem to remember about them.

Or maybe they sell a flower for a couple dollars "donation".

...Why deprive yourself

Depriving myself of nothing. I've been there three times total. There are lots of other places I need/want to see before going back there. There are lots of places I'd rather be than there right now.

That's all.
