Despite the handwaving over China, the idea that a nation of 1 billion can be altered much by the US policy alone or anyone else is likely fantasy. Especially as they have caught on to modernization combined with more economic capitalism but kept their political system essentially in place.

China is playing with its big boy pants firmly on.

China might collapse internally eventually, but that's an unknown option you can't depend on.

I'm not convinced. It's a small as hell sample size...What would you do? Make a rule that the next time an NFL team comes up for sale it can only be sold to a majority black owner?

I don't begrudge nor fault any current white / Asian / Paki NFL team owners for owning a team nor do I consider them racist; they are just "playing the game."

And that's where it gets murky.

Blacks and their supporters did the BLM movement as a shout of desperation, anger and despair over the seeming inability of blacks to achieve equality and be viewed as equals culturally by non-blacks.

NFL players participated in BLM and obivously have skin in the game (so to speak).

How can it not irk / bother / disturb them that most NFL players are black but none of the team owners are black?

The reality of their situation is quite clear to them, they don't like it, but what else can they do?

America is still a Western Christian Civilization and that means the whites have the power and the money.

For the near future I see no end to the dynamic.

Everything in life is murky.

Beyond anything else, the question is one of whether or not equality of opportunity is sufficient or do we strictly need equality of outcome? If equality of outcome, then how the hell do you go about picking individual winners and losers?

I would hope that, if there is a complaint to be made now, it would be that the equality of opportunity still isn't there. If it can be demonstrated that such is the case, then that should be fixed and there should be people looking into that. Personally, I don't think looking at the number of trees there are in a given ZIP code (especially when urban areas tend to have a higher percentage of black residents than suburban or rural) measures equality of opportunity very well.

Again, there are 32 NFL teams. I think a black person who meets the qualifications should have just as much opportunity to buy one as anyone else...but I don't think having a black NFL team owner, or black NFL team owners, fixes any other equality of opportunity issue outside of that...and that's assuming that equality of opportunity is truly lacking as regards NFL ownership anyway.

Put another way, I don't really think a black person owning an NFL team is particularly helpful to many other black people. Why would it be?

If it irks, bothers or disturbs them...then my advice to them would be to reach out to Michael Jordan, and the other billionaires, when the next opportunity to purchase an NFL team comes up. That seems like the quickest and most reliable path to a black person owning an NFL team---especially Jordan. Maybe Jay-Z? Tyler Perry, perhaps? I don't think Oprah would be interested and I don't think the other owners would have Kanye West for a second because he's flippin' nuts.

Ultimately, if there is a problem at all, then it will only be solved by a black person who qualifies to own an NFL team buying an NFL team. I still maintain there are a few who could. Even if Jordan didn't have the liquid, he could almost certainly get loans without using the team itself as collateral...he could use future earnings of his brand as collateral. His name is enough.

If you are making 7 or even 8 figures and you are "irked" because of the skin color of your boss you have problems deeper than you can imagine.

Bingo!

The only thing that would need fixing is if the NFL refused to admit an owner BECAUSE he was black.

The complexity in the head coach disparity is that each NFL franchise is its own business, in competition with the other 31 businesses. If I am the GM of a franchise, MY JOB is on the line if the franchise does not succeed. I would ALWAYS pick the best candidate, by whatever metrics I use. Why would I let race factor into that decision?

Tell that to the NFL players.

They're in a sort of tough spot.

They're "the cream that rose to the top" yet they have played the white man's game to get there.

Unfortunately the typical avenue for a young black man wanting to earn big money is either drugs or professional sports.

Of course they're "irked" and who can blame them?

Blacks in America are still viewed as second class citizens by many whites, and the paths to power are rarely open to them, "for whatever reason."

Your fascination with skin color is amazing.

What percentage of black men, "Earn big money?"

What percentage of white men, "Earn big money?"

If there is a war to be fought, then the battle of millionaires and billionaires is not strategically important to win and represents, at best, a Pyrrhic victory unless the other battles of the war have already been won.

Myself, I'm more concerned about one black dude being passed over for a deserved middle-management promotion who lives a middle class life and earns a middle class income more so than I will ever care who does or doesn't own NFL teams. Bunch of millionaires crying. Donate 90% of your earnings to black communities, then come talk to me.
