Ed, I was raised in north-central NJ, the pine barrens are in the south part of the state.

Yes, they're unique, and pretty extensive (hello, "Jersey Devil").

North: urban / suburban

South: suburban / rural

Whatever, one of the happiest days of my life was putting NJ in my rear view mirror as I headed west to start over in a cool new place, Portland.

Zero regrets.

Christopher and Paulie got lost there.

the Affordable Care Act is on trial Tuesday as a group of Texans challenge the law’s requirement that insurers cover preventive services — everything from STD screenings and HIV prevention drugs to depression checks and flu shots.

A group of Texas residents and employers argue that the ACA’s preventive care mandates violate the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and that forcing people to pay for plans that cover STD screenings and HIV prevention drugs, such as Truvada, will "facilitate and encourage homosexual behavior, prostitution, sexual promiscuity, and intravenous drug use."
The case before Judge Reed O’Connor — the author of several anti-Obamacare rulings — at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas is the latest conservative-led legal effort to undermine the 12-year-old law, and could determine whether insurance companies are allowed to deny coverage or charge sky-high copays for common preventive care going forward.

This challenge, filed in March of 2020 by a group of Texas residents and employers and backed by former Trump officials, argues that the ACA’s preventive care mandates violate the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and that forcing people to pay for plans that cover STD screenings and HIV prevention drugs will "facilitate and encourage homosexual behavior, prostitution, sexual promiscuity, and intravenous drug use."

Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin who is campaigning to be New York's next governor was attacked yesterday by a man wielding a sharp metal object.

After the attacker was arrested and taken away in cuffs, Zeldin predicted he would be 'instantly released under NY's laws.

And he was.

I don’t think it was a setup…. But…. is it possible????? That the Repubs paid some loser $$$$ to attack Zeldin, knowing the attacker would be released due to Dem policies……. WHAT A CAMPAIGN BOOST for Zeldin!

OMG

Did SOOPOO call it?!

After attack, Zeldin boldly predicts the assailant will be released w/o bail and indeed he is.

Turns out that's because the DA's office charged him with a very rare non-violent offense.

And the DA? She's a big supporter of Zeldin who was at the rally!

Wow
Just looked into this
What a fascinating turn of events
The DA could have authorized a more serious appropriate charge but due to being a Zeldin supporter, failed to do her job and let politics determine the charge.
Hmm
You get what you vote for, right Tanko :-)

Racist thug loses his frivolous court cases:

Former Covington Catholic Student Nick Sandmann Loses Defamation Lawsuits Against CBS, ABC, NYT, and Others

Quote:
After years of politically charged litigation, former Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann has lost a round of high-profile defamation lawsuits against five mainstream media companies at the summary judgment stage. That’s according to court dockets and an opinion and order signed by a federal judge in the Eastern District of Kentucky on Tuesday.

Sandmann’s cases against ABC News, Rolling Stone magazine, CBS News, newspaper and television station owner Gannett, and The New York Times are now officially listed as “terminated” on the court record.

Evening news had a segment on baby boomers becoming homeless in San Diego where the average rent is 3752.00 for a 2 bedroom apartment.

So... you don't even own a home and you're trying to stay in a city where you can't find a job that pays enough to live in an apartment?

Sometimes you just have to shake your head instead of wondering what's wrong with people.

Midterms will likely be the end of the Republican Party. The US will officially be a one-party nation.

'Democrats hold slight edge over GOP, abortion more important to voters than inflation, poll shows'

'Democrats are leading in the tight midterm race with a 4% edge over the GOP on the generic congressional ballot, as voters rank abortion as a leading issue over inflation.'

'A new Suffolk University/USA Today poll shook up the midterms, after 44% of voters said that if the election were held today they would vote for a Democrat candidate, while 40% said they would vote for a Republican. About 16% still remain undecided.'

I hope you are right but I really doubt it
Midterms are scaring me
I think the Republicans are a lock for the House
The Senate is a toss up and only a toss up because Republicans are running some of the worst candidates ever. Ever. Oz and Walker????????
We have a system that values rural voters over urban voters. It's a massive advantage for conservatives. WY only gets one house seat but 2 senators. Republicans are much more adept at gerrymandering and I believe the current Supreme Court will accept it. DeSantis is looking to carve up Black communities to prevent a majority black district and I have no doubt this Supreme Court will approve. The old states rights.
