The Adventures of Merlin, BBC, 2008 to 2012. I lasted about 20 minutes into the first episode.

I agree that it was poorly written, but it was very popular. The actor that played Merlin, Colin Morgan, now age 35, had small roles in some big budget films, but for the last 5 years has only done very tiny art-house films.

I heard that Danny Trejo had some great ideas for the movie
He would call the director with his ideas
The director told Danny to text instead
Thats when Danny 1st said "Machete dont text". Then they got the idea to put it in the movie

I agree that it was poorly written, .

The sets and the costumes looked like they were done by a High School drama club. What was worse than the writing what's the flat acting. It's like they were reading it off cue cards, no emotion, no nuance, just flat expressionless delivery. And it was on for five seasons on BBC no less. It gets some scathing reviews on IMDb.

The fourth season of 13 episodes (45-50 minutes) had a $35 million production budget and was shown in 183 territories (countries). That is by no means a BBC record, as in 2018, the BBC reportedly spent around £20 million on the four one-hour animation Watership Down.

But for BBC that is a pretty big budget. Far bigger than Dr. Who, for instance. Which is rumored at about £1 million per episode. Primary BBC actors rarely stay with a show more than 3 years.

Anytime you have a. costume drama with lots of outdoor scenes 90% of your budget is going to be eaten up by production costs. Anytime you have horse's involved, like there are in Merlin, it gets very expensive. They hope the sets and the costumes will make you not notice the bad writing and the terrible acting.

Evenbob,

If you're still looking for a great sitcom with female stars, The Golden Girls, is on HULU right now. I've been watching something like one episode a night (average) for the last week.

I forgot how brilliant Bea Arthur is, impeccable comedic timing and she's always busy playing off of the other characters.

I despised that show when it was on in primetime, but my Dad loved it. He also liked Love Boat, Matlock, and that Agatha Christie show. I hated it all those too.

I enjoyed Matlock reruns when I was a kid, but I can't say I have even heard of those other shows.
