It's pretty impressive. I have to imagine it would be easier to project onto a table surface. But to be honest at $200-$400 I am not sure of what problem it would fix. My phone is 4 ounces. I don't feel a pressing need to shower with my phone, but if I did there are waterproof phones for just over $100. |

I see a few issues, one being you have to wear short sleeves. But I can see kids adopting it and getting even more hooked into it, even more addicting than to iPhones. The President is a fink. |

Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 146 Posts: 25011 | All I have is a Tracfone, emergencies only. Like we're in the casino and it's time to eat and I have to call my wife 5 times to get her off the slots. It expires every 90 days and I have to buy more time and minutes. I usually get the 90 day 60 min plan because I have a double minute phone, if I buy 60min I get 120min. $19.99 It expired a couple months ago and I didn't renew it. I kept getting reminders from them and today I hit the jackpot. They sold me 365 days and 200min for $39.99, what a deal. So I got a year and 400 min for 40 bucks. Best thing is I don't have to screw with it till next summer. I'm sure I'll have 300 min left anyway, I rarely use the thing. In the 80's and 90's I went out of state weekly with no phone, there were none to take with me. My wife won't go to the store without her phone. We were brave in the pre phone days, weren't we. odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 154 Posts: 5112 | Prepaid for me now is no minutes no nothing, I pay for even the first minute etc. 50 cents a month for 911 service [non-optional] and a minimum payment per month of $5. Usually $5 more than covers my usage but I average more than that so sometimes plunk a bit more down. If I don't pay the $5.50 they threaten to just take the balance. That's the part that seems outrageous. Otherwise I am quite happy. Verizon, so excellent coverage for the signal. I'm Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah [it's an old guy chant for me] |

I don't understand any of this. No minutes no nothing? $5 a month if you never use the phone, is that what you mean? If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Yes, but also $5 per month if I make just a few calls and texts. It's not really $5 per month but zero dollars per month ... except you can't skip a month buying at least $5 worth of service; if you make no calls or texts, the $5 is still there. I think the 50 cents for 911 service is a Virginia thing . I don't know exactly what happens didn't pay the $5.50 every month besides losing any money in the balance left over. I keep a balance of about $80 in case I am off hunting or whatever and need to use the phone a lot. I pay 25 cents a minute [a minute, not per call] and 20 cents for texts. No perks of any kind; if it's 3 AM I still pay 25 cents/min. It's very hard to find info about this plan on the internet. Of course, you already need to have a phone. PS: if you build up a balance larger than you could possibly need, you can donate the money to some charity. I'm Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah [it's an old guy chant for me] |

Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 146 Posts: 25011 | With my regular Tracfone plan, I pay $80 a year, which works out to .16 cents a minute for 480 minutes. That's about $6.65 a month. I don't think I've ever been to a place where I never got a signal. I think it's owned by Carlos Slim, who has about half the phone biz in N America. If you take a risk, you may lose. My father despises cell phones, but like most people he has to use them on occasion. I just switched my father to this same Verizon "pay as you go" plan. He was on a $30/month + $5 taxes and fee plan (200 anytime minutes) since 2004, but he was hardly touching the minutes. I called Verizon and they said they had a $100/year +$7 tax that would give him 400 minutes per year (25 cents per minute) and he was on that plan for three years. So in three years he purchased 3*400=1200 minutes, but his balance was still over 700 minutes. They said that he could reduce payment to $5 a month + taxes and fees and he would get 20 additional minutes every month ( still 25 cents per minute) , but he would retain the 700 minutes of rollover if he ever gets in real trouble. The only time he ever made heavy use of his cell phone was when he lost electric and phone service to his home for four days. The first charge just came in at $6.30 but with no explanation for surcharges. I assume part of it was the 911 service. They do hide this plan on the website, and it only works with "basic phones" i.e. flip phones http://www.verizonwireless.com/prepaid/pay-as-you-go/ They also have an option for a $2 per day unlimited talk and text. Certain kinds of subscribers rarely turn on their phone, but when they do they talk for an hour. The "pay as you go by the minute" is not cost effective for them. |

Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 146 Posts: 25011 | I go weeks without turning my phone on. Like your dad, I hate cells also. But I never liked talking on a regular phone either. It's boring, my mind wanders because it's usually somebody prattling on and on about nothing. I seldom talk about myself in person and certainly not on phones. A cell phone is terrible, it's this little hunk of plastic that I now have to be bored on. If I ever use it.. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
