Usually when the incumbent president runs for the nomination, it could be considered a pro forma election.I would go so far as to say that Al Gore's primary run in 2000 was pro-forma as he had 75% of the popular vote against Bill Bradley.

Senator JFK primary run in 1960, he was the heavy favorite, but only carried 10 states and 31% of the vote.

It doesn't look like Hillary would even consent to debate Bernie Sanders or Martin O'Malley . Other than incumbent president or vice president, Is this a historic run?

Closest I can think of in Bush43 in 2000 when McCain made a bit of a run but not much. It is kind of curious that the GOP who tends to pick who's "turn" it is has lately been giving choice in primaries while the Democrat Party is doing the "turn" thing.

Bush was the dominant candidate, but it wasn't really pro-forma. McCain withdrew in March after super Tuesday. He was a viable candidate.

Martin O'Malley seems more like he wants to be on the ballot in case Hillary has a heart attack or one of the scandals sticks. Both scenarios are unlikely.

Scandals probably will not stick, John Gotti had nothing on the Clintons and her base doesn't care what she has done. Even when you do explain it to them their attitude is "I really don't care, I'm voting for her anyways!"

OTOH, I could see her having a stroke or something. She looks unhealthy, not like Reagan who still looked good at that age.

They lived in this little house in their early 30's before Chelsea was born. This is the time they began investing in Whitewhater.

Best thing for the Right is to get her nominated.
Obama was elected because he was totally new. Hillary
is a completely known quantity, the only thing
we don't know is what new scandal is next.
For her to win, the guy on the Right has to be
more odious than her, an impossibility.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Martin O'Malley rocks.
I think it would be great to have a President that can play guitar and knows how to lead a band.

For those about to rock, I salute you.

Back in the day went to see Los Lobos perform at the Baltimore Artscape music and arts festival.
Saw the mayors band. They were scheduled right before Los Lobos.
Omalleys March.
They rocked.

The second one in particular. It seems the Clintons' scandals only stick to other people (see Al Gore)

I think by the 4th of July this will be more or less the group

Five Fox debates will be held in 2015 and will take place in Ohio, California, Colorado, Wisconsin and Nevada. but they won't start until august.

The 10 candidates polling highest in recent national surveys will make it to a Cleveland debate stage in August. I think this decision is going to be subject of much controversy. It will be difficult to cut out most ex governors and the only African American and only woman running. That is 10 right there and that leaves out the Senators and the Donald

    Governors
  1. Mike Huckabee Governor of Arkansas 1996–2007; presidential candidate in 2008
  2. George Pataki Governor of New York 1995-2006

    Senators
  3. Ted Cruz U.S. Senator from Texas since 2013; Solicitor General of Texas 2003–2008
  4. Lindsey Graham U.S. Senator from South Carolina since 2003; U.S. Representative from South Carolina 1995–2003
  5. Rand Paul U.S. Senator from Kentucky since 2011
  6. Marco Rubio U.S. Senator from Florida since 2011;
  7. Rick Santorum U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania 1995-2007; U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania 1991-1995; presidential candidate in 2012

    Not Politicians
  8. Ben Carson Author and former Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery for Johns Hopkins Hospital
  9. Carly Fiorina CEO of Hewlett-Packard 1999-2005; nominee for U.S. Senate from California in 2010
  10. Donald Trump, business magnate and television personality from New York

    Governors (not declared yet)
  11. Jeb Bush, Governor of Florida 1999–2007;
  12. Rick Perry, Governor of Texas 2000–2015;
  13. Chris Christie, Governor of New Jersey since 2010;
  14. Bobby Jindal, Governor of Louisiana since 2008;
  15. John Kasich, Governor of Ohio since 2011;
  16. Scott Walker, Governor of Wisconsin since 2011;

    Governors (lowest possibility of declaration)
