Josie had her first suicide attempt and breakdown over 30 years ago. Toughest call I ever had to do was talk her into ECT. None of the
drugs available at that time were working. Over the next 30 years there were 3 hospitalizations for suicidal thoughts. And one off the record suicide attempt, when i kept her awake 48 plus hours till pills wore off.

Yeah, I know. Don't ta;lk about mental illness. Diabetes, arthritis, etc, but never mental illness. Well, last year Josie starting going downhill.
Her brother died and had dementia at the time. Had J.
osie tested and results were not good. Little by little she started to sink into depression.

Earlier this year doctor wanted to hospitalize her, but Josie was unwilling so she prescribed Viibyrd. $60 for 30 days till I hit donut hole, then 45% of about 1,000. Did not work, now on Brintellix, about same cost, same results, nothing ! Little over month ago, on way out of doctors office, Josie diabetic doctor grabbed her in hallway and w3anted her to see this man who was doing wonders with magnets.Diabetic dr is a nice lady , but a little offbeat. Nobody should eat processed foods, diet soda, etc. I remember thinking at the time, WTF.

But a week later walk into this guy's Behavorial Science building, which was a house. Josie went upstairs with him while I look at the collection of Jackelopes mounted on the wall, and pictures off magicans. Turn out he is a phsyciatrist and a magician, Harvard educated.

What this machine does is send electromagnet pulses to left side of brain and dr watches for twitch of thumb on roght hand. Very sligt twitch. Josie has tremors and after 20 minutes he was talking about a friend of his . The friend is working on a device to measure the twitches thru wires or something, but would take a few days to have him come over. Josie breaks down in tears. Well, dr and his nurse, who is his daughter and a magician too, spend an hour mapping out Josie. Me rubbing her shoulders, her taking deep breathing exercises, but finally get right setting. 30 sessions is the norm, expect results 10-15 session, 45 minutes, 40 pulses in 4 seconds , then nothing for 26 seconds. With ECT they get results 8-10 usually, quit at 15, Josie came back to me at 13.
RECAP: Josie would nap 5 hours a day, hide in bedroom when grandkids came over, short term memory shot, I could not let her drive after day she spent 3 minutes figuring out why car was not moving. She was pressing on floorboad 8 inches from gas pedal. Noy just tremors in both hands, but constantly tapping fingers of either hand, pulling off cuticles, cutting toenails so short they bled.
Had treatmant 17 today. 2 weekends ago was coloring at kitchen table with grand daughters. Short term memory is bqack, slightest of tremors, no finger tapping. This weekend 5 granddaughter had sleepover, after church on Sunday brought 7 back with us. Driving to a garage sale Josie told me we bought a mattress last year, even remember tree in front yard before it came in view. Still will stays on meds . but they are working now. She even had control of her diabetes. Hopefully mods will leave this link up her. If i could I would post on WOV, as many gamblers are self medicating their depression.

I think a lot of WoV members suffer from depression to one degree or another. As the good book says, "With much wisdom comes much sorrow." Not to say I have much wisdom but a major reason I'm always so damn busy with with physical challenges is to stay ahead of the abyss, which is always chasing me.

various deeper and stronger magnets on the left hemisphere are used to treat depression and a variety of compulsive behaviors including sexual molestation.

diabetes depression.... Heck for years its been proposed that depression is cranial diabetes. conditions that feature nocturnal polyuria but NOT diabetes are interesting because they often progress to diabetes after several years.

The stigma still attached to mental illness is one of the cruelest inventions ever devised by humanity.

There's no need to go through the whole litany of how such stigma is bad. It can all be easily explained in one sentence: it makes a bad thing much, much worse.

Imagine if the same stigma were placed on regular bodily disease. I'm sorry, "imagine"? there's no need to imagine. It's been done, too. Most recently in the early stages of the AIDS crisis in the mid-80s. Read up on it, or try to remember those days. Calls for HIV positive people to be quarantined indefinitely. Charges of attempted murder pressed on an HIV positive man for spitting on someone.

Or read up on leprosy. That was ugly, too.

What is done for mental illness is even worse. Not to mention it also gets sued as a bludgeon to beat up others: LGBT people are mentally ill. Conservatives are mentally ill. Atheists are mentally ill. Liberals are mentally ill. Religion is a mental illness. And more.

And in the meantime people with depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc. are told to suffer quietly and invisibly.

Low power magnets do nothing of the sort. They don't have enough field effect to affect the blood. The research on them being anything more than a placebo isn't there.

I have a daughter Melanie, who is Schizo. Luckily Geodon silenced the voices in her head. But a side effect was Tardive Dyskinesia.
Involuntary facial twitches that drew stares. Luckily with vitamins it was repressed. But Melanie preferred even that to hearing voices.
