A guy I hadn't thought of in a long time.

Comedian Irwin Corey - dead at 102

Is there any data to back up my vague feeling that comedians tend to live a long, long time?

Even the ones who have a risky lifestyle like Richard Pryor hang around longer than the odds would suggest. But I don't know if it's any longer than anyone else on average. On the other hand, overweight comedians don't hang around too long, it seems to me.

Jackie Gleason made it to 70, but he is the exception. Richard always one of my hero's. See him on early Johnny Carson, late night. Almost an Oreo routine. Then he went to college at Berkley, got some white p****, and changed whole routine. Then many years later, after visiting Africa, took the N word out of his stand-up act. Must have lost 50% of his material.

Last few years, facing a slow death due to MS, he had a website named " I ain't dead yet, M+++++F+++ER "

Plus he was an Army veteran 1958-1960, even if most of that time was in an Army prison

I've watched the Carson appearances.

Pryor does Jerry Lewis on Merv.

Thanks for sharing. He had an epiphany in 1967, walked onto the stage at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas , Dean Martin in the audience, looked at the sold-out all white audience , exclaimed over the microphone "What the f*** am I doing here!?" and walked off stage. That was first time he used profanity in his act. Red Foxx would have been proud.

I don't think so. There's a bunch that go early. Maybe it's because your work environment is usually filled with alcohol, smoke, and drugs:

Name: Age at Death
Jonathan Winters: 88
Rodney Dangerfied: 83
George Carlin: 71

Richard Pryor: 65
Robin Williams: 63

Bernie Mac: 51
Phil Hartman: 50

John Candy: 44
Gilda Radner: 43
Lenny Bruce: 41

Sam Kinison: 39
Andy Kaufman: 35
John Belushi: 33
Chris Farley: 33

What a classic bit by a former Pentecostal preacher and an atheist.

Sadly Sam was killed when a 17 year old kid had too much alcohol, his pickup truck crossed the line, and hit Sam's 1989 Pontiac Trans Am head on. The kid got a year's probation.
