It actually is based on historical fact.

There is no historical fact placing
the day on Dec 25th. It wasn't
even adopted till the 3rd century.
There are plenty of facts, however,
to place it at that date because of
Saturnalia. The early Church grew
weary or trying to wipe out the
pagan high holidays so they finally
wised up and absorbed them into
the religion.

More than a religion, the Church was
an early example of corporate thinking.
They started running it as a corporation,
with a head office and a CEO and
VP's under the CEO. Monopoly was
their main goal, which just like Standard
Oil, they achieved. With no competition,
and an eye on constant growth. they
prevailed for a very long time. God
had nothing to do with it, cutthroat
corporate greed was what propelled
them.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

And the 4th of July is not the actual date the Declaration was signed. Do you have a point?

Yes, that Dec 25th is not the date
Jesus was born. That the whole
manger story, and no room at
inn, and traveling because of
a census, is a concocted story.

And this causes you personal harm in what way exactly? As an atheist you care why exactly?

Do you one day plan to go to KSA with a survey crew and dispute the exact location Mecca should be at?

Bob, I'm sorry you feel that way but you are wrong. Jesus was born and changed the world in a radical way for the better and nothing you can say or any crockpot ideas you believe will change that.

Way more important than if the actual date was Dec or June.
Way more important than the fact that "Inn" <> "Hotel" and meant more the extra room in a relative's house.
Way more important than worrying if part of the story are allegorical or fact for fact.

Personal harm, no. It mostly just
irritates the crap out of me. Like
if adults truly believed Santa was
at the NP making gifts for kids.
Mangers, and virgin births, stop
it. It's ridiculous.

Yeah, no.. His FOLLOWERS changed the
world, Jesus did nothing but get nailed
to a cross like 100,000 other poor souls.
In his short lifetime Jesus did nothing
to change anything, it's stories made
up about him that effected the world,
sometimes in the worst ways possible.

If that is the biggest problem in your life you are doing good.

If it was the only virgin birth
story ever, that would be
something. But myths are
loaded with them, they're
a dime a dozen. That some
people choose THIS one to
be real and the others to
be fakes, is just too much for
a rational person to deal with.
