The change barred hundreds of thousands from seeking employment in the U.S. Trump also proposed a rule change that would require corporations to pay H1B visa workers competitive wages, and cut the number of H1B visas by one third. "Officials said the ban on worker visas, combined with extending restrictions on the issuance of new green cards, would keep as many as 525,000 foreign workers out of the country for the rest of the year." "A majority of H-1B employers—including major U.S. tech firms—use the program to pay migrant workers well below market wages" As much as 34% below market wages. Two days ago, a Judge overthrew Trump’s changes. Indians rejoice. With Trump headed for the door, Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee, who calls Trumps changes “immigration discrimination”, introduced a measure that will end caps on employment green cards. The measure passed the Senate by unanimous consent. Both sides evidently believe requiring higher wages for H1B visa holders, so they can’t replace American workers is discriminatory. Why it matters: It was the latest example of big corporations — including AT&T, Disney and Southern California Edison — using H-1B visas for cheaper labor, and sometimes forcing Americans to first train their foreign replacements. Austin is absolutely booming with tech jobs. Anyone that is looking for a tech job would find this a great time to move to Austin. Fortunately today in Austin you can still find a nice house for under $500k At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a detrrent. |
