$15.4 billion: The official price tag for the Tokyo Olympics, making it the most expensive Games ever staged.

42%: The decrease in viewership from the 2016 Rio Olympics to the Tokyo Games through Tuesday.

The IOC had better notice they have a problem. Any city wanting to host the games is crazy.

And the places available to watch the games has gone up a huge amount since 2016. And even with that there was a 42% decrease. The Olympics are boring, face it
. Just because the commentators are going bananas because somebody from Jamaica just set some kind of world record doesn't mean anybody else but them and somebody from Jamaica gives a rap.

I remember in 1992 when it was going to be a big deal that they would have several feeds. NBC, CNBC, MSNBC would all have different events, no more of just gymnastics and track/field. It was such a big thing.

Now you can watch most things, but people seem to not care so much. Hard to say what it is, though I think a big part is the games are not as "special" as they were pre-1990s. Back then the Cold War gave more drama. Today we have athletes who literally hate competing for the USA.

It could be as simple as the timing is when people start to feel like they don't need to stay home anymore and watch TV or avoid crowds as much. Delta variant notwithstanding.
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

It could be that the games are as boring
as mowing your lawn. I only watch
highlights on Utube and even they are
boring as hell.

You use "boring" so much. you're like the fable of the boy who cried wolf.

I just watched a 70 pound 15 year old
girl do 3 perfect dives. Absolutely boring
as hell dives. Without the commentators
creaming their jeans there would have
been no excitement at all.

What's your idea of excitement?

Watching your cow deliver a two-headed calf in the barn?

Watching a TV or a monitor is such a passive
activity how can anything on it be exciting.
Ever notice that in movies or TV shows the
main characters rarely are seen looking at
a screen? Is there anything more boring than
watching somebody else watch a screen.

Here's a couple of live televised events which most certainly were exciting:

Apollo moon landing.

Oswald getting shot in Dallas.

9/11 in NYC.

Perhaps programmed content is not your cuppajoe, but some of the live stuff is monumental.
