He only had one good arm and he refused to let anyone help
him get dressed in the morning. Usually took him 30 minutes
to do it by himself. Probably takes Captain Poopypants 30
minutes to get dressed and that's with help.

I heard on the radio yesterday that Bob Dole was the only person to lose general elections for both president and vice president. Can anyone (Paco) confirm or deny this?

Mondale lost in re-election in 1980 if that counts.

Yes, Mondale did lose for both offices. Maybe the way it was phrased was Dole was the only person to lose on both presidential and vice-presidential tickets and never won

Bob Dole was a frightening candidate. He had a somber spooky
look about him and he was always clutching that pencil in his
bad hand. Once you noticed it you couldn't take your eyes off
of it. He had no charisma, no likability. He never had a chance.
It's sad that he got permanently disabled in World War II but
who wants a president that takes a half hour to get dressed in
the morning because he refuses any help. That's not noble,
it's stubborn and dumb.

He always reminded me of Humphrey Bogart’s character in The Caine Mutiny
He also had a weird way of talking about himself in the third person in campaign speeches.

He got the nomination because it was "his turn" but boy was he awful. Probably the last to run under the old ways before the internet started changing the dynamics of the primaries and fundraising.

Geez, I'd forgotten all about that. It gives me the creeps
when somebody refers to themselves in the third person.
He could have been the only person on the ticket and a
write-in candidate would have beat him. He was that bad.

One of the best bets I ever made was on Clinton to win the 96 election. $500 at even money. That was by far the biggest bet I ever made at that time.
