Not actually spying? The balloon had the ability to steer itself, and changed direction multiple times in order to fly over three nuclear bases in the US.

They had numerous opportunities to shoot it down. Especially when it was first discovered in US territory over the Aleutian Islands, and over Montana, and flying over lakes. It was a balloon. Simply pierce it for a soft landing. No missiles necessary.

They didn't have any problem shooting down three more 'objects' flying over the US after that.

Let me know when you want a 200 foot long, 2,000 pound object shot down over your house. Pierce it for a soft landing? Then we have the pesky force called "gravity" to contend with.

Pentagon says the balloon neither collected nor transmitted any info. If you know more than them, maybe you should lodge a complaint.

Even if it was, they could likely jam it. They can't give one good reason to even risk dropping it on a sparsely populated area, except to whine and whine and whine. Of course, the Pentagon would never hear the end of it if it had dropped early and killed or injured someone.

Anyway, it doesn't change the prediction.

He was spot on. Even naming Bin Ladin and predicting his escape, nearly two years before it happened.

In passages on terrorism, Trump’s book does correctly predict that the U.S. was at risk of a terrorist attack that would make the 1993 World Trade Center bombing pale by comparison. That was a widespread concern at the time, as Trump suggested in stating “no sensible analyst rejects this possibility.”

The book did not call for further U.S. action against bin Laden or al-Qaida to follow up on attacks

Too bad he couldn’t predict the outcome of the 2020 election.

Could have saved him A LOT of grief and multiple indictments.

Did you read the article about shooting down three more over the US right after that?

Same locations they could have shot down the first one.

So much for concern about damage and injuries on the ground.

Xiden was afraid to anger the Chinese.

Here's a three-ton blimp crash landing on a rooftop in Manhattan in 1993. No damages. No injuries.

"Pentagon says". And you automatically believe them.

Pentagon also said Saddam had 'weapons of mass destruction'.

4,500 dead US servicemen. 32,000 wounded. 200,000 Iraqi civilians killed.

Do you realize that balloon carried a one-ton payload? It changed course three times over the US to maneuver itself over three nuclear bases. Do you think that was by chance? What do think it was carrying?

If it wasn't spying successfully, why send three more right after it?

The US doesn't autormatically stop every spy mission against us. We sometimes use them to gather intelligence about a spying operation.

One good reason to let them continue is to see if they are Chinese sources on the ground in the US. If they are communicating inside the US, you're not going to find out if you shoot them down.

So you wait until it gets outside of a residential area. What is the big deal?

Over the ocean is certainly outside a residential area.

It wasn't the Pentagon and Saddam's WMD. It was the Republicans in the administration who said Saddam had WMDs. I also hasten to remind all that it was a Republican administration that invade Iraq in 2003.
