STEVE SCALISE is the House Republican's nominee for speaker of the House.

113-99

Donny endorsed Gym Jordan, who got 99 votes.

Will Scalise be able to get 217 (or however many) votes needed on the floor?

I think Scalise is far enough Right to ‘eventually’ get enough votes. But doubtful the Trump loyalists make it simple. I don’t know Jordan well enough, but I think it’s possible he supports Scalise with some bones thrown his way? I hope so….

So far at least one GOP Rep has come out as a hard NO for Scalise. Could get messy (again).

Righties were criticizing the fact that there weren’t 8 Dems who were willing to save McCarthy. Now: won’t 8 GOP members put the country before their party and vote for Jeffries?! He’s got more votes than either Gym or Scalise at this point! (heh heh)

Touché…. But seriously, with two close to evenly divided candidates, the Dems could have chosen the one that they felt was better suited to work with them. The may have said…. Jordan, really bad. Scalise, bad, but not nearly as bad. And voted him in! I think it would have served two (Democrat) goals. First, they get the candidate they want. Second, it is a TOTAL humiliation to the Republican Party that the Democrats chose their speaker.

No speaker vote today. Scalise doesn’t have the votes yet.

This is what you get when you elect republicans.

First the BLS published bogus employment numbers, then it publishes bogus inflation numbers.

According to the BLS, inflation YOY remained at 3.7% in September, because according to the BLS, the cost of health insurance has fallen 37% in the past year.

'The Consumer Price Index (CPI) jumped by 0.40% in September from August, despite the still ongoing ridiculous monthly adjustments to the health insurance CPI that caused it to collapse by 37.3% year-over-year.'

So we waited for the health index to peak after years of running health care costs up then recently added it to the CPI.

It hasn't peaked and they've always included Health Care in the CPI.

They're fudging the numbers.

The BLS includes sixteen categories of Medical Care in the CPI. Actual costs continue to rise every month, but over the past year, the BLS arbitrarily began lowering its estimate of those costs each month in order to make it appear the rate of inflation is lower than it actually is.

They could be doing that with other components of the Index as well. This 37% reduction in Medical Care costs is the most obvious.

One result is an artifically lower COLA for retirees collecting Social Security checks.

The 2024 adjustment will not keep up with inflation.

Love Locks? (Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona.)

Quote:
In the post shared on social media earlier this week, the park management expresses concern about ‘love locks.’ These popular objects are padlocks that are hung from a metal fence, often bearing a couple’s name or initials, with the key then thrown into a nearby body of water.

Many people believe that the locks are good luck for a relationship, and that throwing away the key symbolizes an unbroken love.

However, while the locks themselves are considered “littering” and “graffiti” in the park, it’s the keys that can cause even more serious problems.

The critically endangered California condor is attracted to shiny things, and as a result some of the birds have eaten keys out of the water and required surgery to remove them.

“Condors are curious animals and much like a small child will investigate strange things they come across with their mouths,” reads the post. “Condors are not meant to digest metal and many times cannot pass these objects. If a condor ingests too many objects like this, it could die.”

Love locks have become a problem in other destinations as well, most notably at Paris’ Pont des Arts, where the locks had become so heavy they were damaging the structural integrity of the bridge.
When the city of Paris removed the locks in 2015, the weight of the 700,000 metal objects was the equivalent of 20 elephants.
Once they were all removed, the city put glass partitions up on the bridge to prevent anyone from adding new locks.
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?
