Remember when you got a new license plate every year for your car instead of the sticker? When did the sticker start?

1960s in PA. During WWII the "sticker" was a small piece of metal you screwed on.

In MI we got two plates up till the 70's.
Got tags in 80's and one plate for life
if you transfer it from car to car.

Post WWII the tags came with tabs that fit in punched ovals and bent over to fasten. Agree some time in the 60's for the adhesive stickers

The ones in WWII IIRC were just for 1944 in PA and they are a partial-collectible. Back then all cars renewed in March so at the start of the war the 1943 plates were probably all made or so far along that they just issued them, but 1944 they conserved steel. The ones issued for 1945 were near war-end so steel might have been more available.

Most states vary. Today NY makes plates for a few other states.

It's always bugged me that they make
us register our cars every year. Why
not every 4 years like our drivers
license, what's the difference. At least
give us the option.

NY was for 2 and AZ gave the option of 1 or 2, fwiw in AZ your drivers license is good to age 65.

Cars may trade too often to make 4 years worth the hassle?

Collect and fill stamp books and redeem for prizes (or products as it were). I think my mother got them for buying gas and for groceries. I seem to recall her being upset if she left the business and she had not gotten any, and the clerk hadn't offered them. (because both would be chatting usually and both forgot)

Green Stamps is the same as having a
rewards credit card. Exactly the same
thing.
