It's not sad, 80% of those people
want to be there. Most of them
are under 40, with most of those
under 30. It's a lifestyle, scamming
and living off whatever they can
get for free. They're bums, calling
them homeless gives real homeless
people a bad name.

California makes it easy to be homeless. Tolerable weather to live outside most of the year. Huge social benefits. Culture that supports them both politically and by giving handouts. Also traps them there via easy availability of drugs and a booze store or three on every block.

I seriously wonder how long CA can keep going before the wheels fall off. I just do not see how people live out there. The coastal areas are overcrowded and overpriced. The inland areas are agricultural areas where the landowners are doing well enough but the broader population is near poverty. At what point does it stop functioning?

Huge social benefits.

What "huge" benefits? Handouts, soup kitchens, sleeping in the streets? You consider that huge?
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

California spends huge on social programs at all levels. You cannot really dispute that. They also have huge homeless and poverty industrial complexes. I got panhandles at least hourly when I was in SF.

The biggest benefit they get in Calif
is that the public supports and even
encourages them being there. You
can take a crap on the street in SF
and nobody will bother you. It's
what happens when Libs are given
full reign to run things.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

SF is crazy. For so many years anybody who called out bad behavior was called the bad guy. You have to be some kind of nonconformist to fit into the mainstream there. But so much is a Potemkin Village. For every Facebook there are a dozen places with a roomful of techies eating ramen noodles hoping to make it big. How do people survive there?

If California is really 46 on taking Federal Dollars, you really can't complain about what they choose to do.

And like you, one can move if they don't like it.

CA spends a huge amount of state dollars. Maybe you missed the budget crisis period about 10 years ago? They will probably have another one soon.

BTW: people are moving away from it. Once the state people moved to, now people leave. Illegal aliens are the biggest group moving in.

In the 60's, 1000 people a day moved to
Calif. That's 365,000 a year, with almost
nobody leaving. In the last 10 years,
500,000 a year left and 400,000 a year
moved there. But the problem is, the
skilled people are leaving and they're
being replaced by the uneducated and
unskilled. Many move to Texas because
Calif has the highest tax rate, 13.5%, and
Texas has zero taxes. And far fewer
homeless. And cost of living.

Yeah, but the people in the state are choosing that by picking their representatives and if their federal dollar use remains low, what does anyone outside of there need to complain about?

...whereas looks like we could nuke Mississippi and it would be good for the nation's fiscal health.
