I hope more liberals and conservatives speak out against it. I also believe Canada has laws and that they have the right to end any protest, even a peaceful one, if it is disrupting the peace by halting traffic, making noise in residential areas, stopping work, etc. The protesters have been given the chance to state their case in public and the Prime Minister has refused to do much but call them names. It is time for the protesters to work towards electing more people that understand their cause and support it and get back to work. Of course, they also can make the choice to be arrested or have other sanctions against them. The Canadian measures that can be taken under the act seem a little over the top for a protest, but they are the laws and you can fight them in court or in the court of public opinion. This is also how cities should have handled peaceful protests in the US…let people have their say, arrest rioters and looters, and limit how long areas disrupted without proper permitting can remain that way. |
