I would be scared. There is no real strong potential Democrat to be the 'obvious' 2020 candidate. If Oprah announced today that she will be running for President in 2020, which Democrat would want to take her on? And just like the shocking victory by the non traditional DJT, I could easily see Oprah winning. God help us..... (from an atheist....) |

Have you ever heard her talk? She's as boring and as intelligent as an old lemon peel. She's Obama, she can read a speech just fine. Off the cuff she's Obama, only worse, if that's possible. Women love her because she's emotional, she cries a lot. And she has good writers for daytime TV. She's a talking head, and the head is empty. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I would not be enthusiastic about an Oprah candidacy. Too much cult of personality, just like Trump. However, I don't think she's foolish enough to think she's an expert on everything - really the opposite of Trump, and one of his biggest flaws. She may have a big ego, I really don't know, but she's very smart about putting experts in the right places, and pulling together their abilities and contributions, so in that respect, she'd be an improvement. I think her worst trait as president would be a reliance on entitlements and giveaways. Could be wrong, but of her most popular programs most involved insane giveaways to the audience or swooping into some sad situation and Good Fairy-ing it into a happy ending. For me, this wish-fulfillment impulse with other people's money is the deal-breaker with any Dem. Never doubt a small group of concerned citizens can change the world; it's the only thing ever has |

She's good at packaging and selling herself to women on daytime TV, with the help of a huge staff. I find her excruciatingly boring, the opposite of Trump. Even his haters listen to him when he speaks because he knows how to connect with an audience. Like Scott Adams says, Trump has no one talent, but he has a huge talent 'stack' that he draws from. Calling himself a genius this weekend really impressed Adams. The worst thing you can do is say things like "I'm not stupid" or "I'm not crazy". Look what happened to Nixon when he said he wasn't a crook. The word 'Nixon' and 'crook' are now joined to each other for eternity. Trump just linked himself to the word 'genius', probably for the rest of his career. That word has no negative connotations whatsoever, it's 100% positive, even when used sarcastically. Pure genius on Trump's part, amazing actually. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Agreed. She'd be terrible. Not dreadful. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

I don't mind having a conversation but I have to say I dislike being edited out of context, which you do a lot. You strung together 3 things I said in a much longer paragraph, then addressed just that, in part negating the contrast I was making and misrepresenting my point in your response. I would argue that Trump does NOT have the wisdom or security to employ experts and allow them to guide his actions or advise him. He chooses sycophants who tell him what he wants to hear, often know nothing about the department they're leading, and values their loyalty to him personally over the best interests of the department or the country. A bunch of bumbling fools, with a few exceptions. Trump himself only listens to himself, no matter the depth of his ignorance on the topic, how it would connect to other events and policies, any unintended consequences, or even the constitutionality of his actions. He's proud of this and proclaims it often. To me, it's a strong indication of mental illness, to delude yourself you always know better than anyone else. Oprah does not do that. And I assume she would carry that respect for expertise and wise counsel into a Presidency, though I don't know. This was RWR's skill; he appointed /nominated competent people. She would follow that model, with some awareness of how much she doesn't know. Never doubt a small group of concerned citizens can change the world; it's the only thing ever has |

rxwine Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 189 Posts: 18762 | So apparently all this new Oprah speculation got generated, or regenerated out of last night's speech. So I looked it up and am linking it. You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really? |
