You are probably right. Just nature doing its thing, killing the old, the weak, the surplus and the stupid. Injuring some of the rest. No harm done in the grand scheme of things.

Friend of ours from Womans bay, Kodiak island near the Coast guard base texted and said it had been blowing between 40-70 for the last 36 hours with gusts around a hundred. Lifted her whole house a couple times she says. Finally getting to go to sleep after 36 hours of house watch.

They don't call them hurricanes in Alaska until the last few years. They usually say it's just another lousy day.

I was surprised how windy it got in Vegas sometimes. For awhile I had a 150cc scooter there, and sometimes coming into open spaces you could catch really strong side gusts. McCarren airport record is 82 mph non-thunderstorm gusts.
