The Japanese retain some traditional elements, but they are creative and trendy to the point of being absolutely weird.

Japan has had the unique opportunity to basically be forcefully modernized (more so the second time, the first was more consensual). In the 1800s this happened with America colluding with their government to allow foreign investment ("The Opening of Japan") , and then again after WWII when the allies basically restructured their country for obvious reasons.

This has allowed to country to obtain western values while retaining their tradition, causing a unique culture (South Korea has some similarities as a result of the Korean War, though in this case they were helped on their terms).

Testimony before Congress today:

"I recommended that we maintain 2,500 troops in Afghanistan,” McKenzie said in response to questions about his advice to Biden on troop levels.
Milley said he also recommended a “steady state of 2,500” troops in the region.

Biden repeatedly lied about the advice he got from military commenters on troop levels.

From the George Stephanopoulos interview with Lyin Joe Biden:

STEPHANOPOULOS: So no one told — your military advisors did not tell you, “No, we should just keep 2,500 troops. It’s been a stable situation for the last several years. We can do that. We can continue to do that”?

BIDEN: No. No one said that to me that I can recall.

Biden gets all his orders straight from Beijing, they wanted
us out of Afghanistan so we got out. China wants to take
over Bagram Air Force Base. If this was Trump there would be
30 articles of impeachment in front of the House. This is the
kind of crap they tried to get Trump on for 4 years and
couldn't do it. You cannot get any more Smoking Gun than this.

Wut? Where’s the impeachable offense? Dare I ask… where’s the quid pro quo? 😂

Somebody please inform AMS that I have blocked him again about a week ago. I see he always posts immediately after I do so I assume his posts about me but I never read them so I'm just assuming.

Biden should not have pulled out from Afghanistan, but he carried out the deal that Trump made.

I have a feeling if he did not, the right would be attacking him right now for "not following through"....

This is not some Chinese conspiracy (though I agree that it will benefit them), this is just a sad attempt by Biden to gain political points for being "anti-war" or some nonsense.

But, the reality is, in a few years its going to cause more war, and a nastier one when we have to retake Afghanistan. Instead of leaving 2-3k troops there permanently (which is very doable, we have 30K in Korea for similar reasons and everyone is fine with it) and coordinating ongoing airstrikes, we just pulled out.

I agree it was stupid, but not a conspiracy (maybe at the most a political one to gain some short term "anti-war" cred....)

People seem to have a short term memory, but I was calling Trump stupid for talking about pulling out (and even talking to the Taliban at all), and then an idiot for the deal with the Taliban to pull out... I have a feeling if Trump was still President we would be out (in fact I know we would, because he would never be able to admit to one of his deals being bad). So the reality is, both Presidents have been terrible on this issue while in office. (The difference is if Trump was in office, you would likely be saying "look at the terrible mess he saved America from staying involved with"....)

So Trump is now in the position of creating a mess from bad deals and poor planning, and then blasting others for how they handle cleaning it up after he washes his hands (IE the story of his life)...

But, yeah I concede, Biden gets the ultimate blame for following through with President Trump's idiotic plan, as COC he could have ended it immediately upon taking office (and I was hoping that he would).

This is what, the third time, you’ve publicly announced you blocked me?

How upsetting.

We should have gotten out of that hole 10 years ago. There should be no good reason to go back. Let Iran and China invade the place. ENCOURAGE it! Get them and Pakistan to partition it. If Trump was POTUS we would have gotten out clean because Trump does not care about being PC. Mission would be what mattered.

Face facts, Biden is the disaster we knew he would be.

No, Biden is a disaster on this issue.

I have no reason to believe Trump would be any different on this issue (based on his past comments and deals the exact same). That is a low hanging fruit, but its reality. Again, Biden is following Trump's deal (which is sad for many reasons), and now Trump is bashing him for it (and he should be bashed for it, but the irony is palpable).

We should not have pulled out. We handed the country to the Taliban (as anyone with even a base level of foreign knowledge could have predicted).

And, now we are seeing reports that this was known widely in the military community (because, of course), but both Presidents did not care and wanted to be out...

Why would the taliban go to the trouble of getting us out, only to duplicate the same kind of situation to draw us back. We only ended up fighting them because they hedged on giving up bin laden.

You must be joking. You really think in your wildest dreams that if Trump's military advisors had told him to leave 2500 troops there and to get all the civilians out he would have totally ignored it and done exactly what Biden did? You didn't pay much attention when Trump was President did you.
