Trump's plan

Do this thing. See what happens next. I'll be surprised if there is much beyond that as far as world affairs.

So, by that principle of "universal jurisdiction" maybe someone could seize Hegseth or trump and put them on trial for murder of Venezuelan seamen, or for the death or destruction at the Venezuelan military sites?

He was wanted for crimes in the United States as he has been indicted by the the Southern District of New York a few years back. Presumably he will stand trial on those charges. I can’t imagine, however, that this will turn out well. I must have missed Hegseth and Trump being charged with any crimes in the actions you mention.

I think it is bad precedent to set in going after foreign leaders in their own countries. It will be interesting to see if any of our ‘allies’ come out in support of this action.
It's early days yet. The attacks on Venezuelan military installations were within the last few hours, hardly time for the Venezualan legal system to raise charges locally. Even the attacks on boats were as recent as a few months.

Let's agree that this 'capture' appears to have been efficiently executed, but historically, such adventures have got messy and not ended well.
Maduro and his supporters are as entrenched in Venezuela's state apparatus as trump is in your country. trump can't expect to just slide in a new administration without fierce resistance.
Venezuela is weak. It's outgunned. But while it exists as a figurehead, anti American sentiment can grow into anti-american actions.

I don't claim to have any idea how this will pan out.

Will not to be unnecessarily cynical, but if you don't plan to cut Trump in on the corruption, you have much to fear as a corrupt leader. Since I don't buy that he is not willing to engage in corruption. Of course, he seems to look at leadership of other countries, not necessarily on the basis of if they are moral leaders but how many "cards" they hold.

Well okay, sometimes how much wealth they have to offer him.

When is Tulsi going to resign? She's supposedly against this sort of thing.

Karl followers always lose to capitalism in the long term because capitalism conserves resources through supply and demand better than artificial interference:

They come and go but the names and faces change after they force folks to be poor.

Eventually, the top-earners pack up and leave before they begin to confiscate their assets.

They can last as long as the assets they steal last.

I'd guess the main ops of the NYSE will eventually be transferred to save money.

I'm not sure I love the idea of invading a country to arrest somebody on drug charges. Everything about this has been quite odd.

Trump says we're running their country and are going to send in all our oil companies to make money for the Venusians. (yes, I think we are on Venus)

Odd, amusing, distracting. Anything but Epstein, or maybe the failed negotiations for Ukraine, or trumps health.
trump and his inner circle must maintain a veritable queue of things to insert into the news cycle.
Kudos to them for media management.
Kudos too, for the team that extracted Maduro.
