Another shooting by the feds, this time in stumptown by the customs and border patrol, due to suspects "weaponizing" their vehicle.

I think I'm spotting a trend...

Doesn't look like these feds are as good a shot as the one in Minneapolis. ☹️

I commend the officer on his excellent shooting.

Basically agree. It is not something I will ever worry about. Pulled over this year. Answered all the cops questions. Asked permission to go into glove compartment. Followed his instructions. I’m alive to tell about it. Had I ignored his command to get out, backed up to then try and escape forward, maybe there would be no one to type this.

But there’s the other side of course. You want your law enforcement officers to know how to avoid the need to use deadly force, not escalate it so deadly force is used.

There’s a child. I’m interested to see if ex husband gets full custody or new ‘wife’ does? The child will likely receive a 7 figure settlement.

Why would the cop need to look into your glove box? I keep my registration clipped to my sun visor. If I ever need to show it to a cop, he doesn't get a peak into my glove box.

Registration and insurance card. The cent lookin my glove compartment. He gave me permission to do so.

You may not like being stopped. You may have done nothing wrong. But don’t be an idiot and put yourself at risk. I’m never 100% sure what my rights are. I am 100% sure I will always do the smart thing.

Oh, I read it as the cop wanted a look into the glove box my bad.

The difference between you and me is I ALWAYS try and be sure what my rights are. And yours. And everyone else's.

That being said, my premise still stands. My registration is clipped to my sun visor so no cop can use the "furtive movement to the glove box" excuse to yank me from my vehicle. If he asks to search my vehicle, the answer is always "no". Then he has a choice: search my car without a warrant or permission and justify the warrantless search in court, or let me go without potentially violating my rights. If you wish to be a sheep and give up your rights out of ignorance and fear, go for it. I have made a different and more informed and protective choice.

NEVER argue with or be snotty to a cop when he pulls you over.

If it's dark, turn on the overhead light.

If he asks you to roll down your window, do so, at least enough to communicate and pass your license and registration to him.

Have your license and registration available when he approaches you so you need not fumble for it.

If he asks if he can search your car say "I do not consent to a search of my car."

If he asks if you've been drinking, in fact if he starts quizzing you at all say "I am invoking my fifth amendment right to stay silent," then zip the lip.

I recommend fumbling for it , giving you time to keep up a friendly conversation ... you *do* want to ask him for 'just a warning'

of course I have few other concerns unlike the felons here

Do you consider all aggressive driving to constitute felony menacing? (attempting to intimidate an individual with a known deadly weapon.)
no

I also do not think the officer should have fired, but am not wanting him charged either. Turns out he got dragged down the street in a previous incident. There is a claim his training has him shoot too

And we know also that this woman was not an innocent bystander, but an activist who showed up to cause trouble

When do you ever need to have a gun on someone to get them out of the middle of the road? And actually, traffic was passing in this case so it wasn't a dire emergency at all to get her out of the road.

However, I will agree on one thing, at least according to the DeSantis backed law in Florida. If I can make someone mad enough to come at me, I can pull a gun and shoot them dead. That's what we call in Florida the "Stand Your Ground" Law. Every gun righters love it, I guess.

Perhaps there are problems with that law, but you are mischaracterizing it. It acknowledges that not every situation should require making escape and avoidance the primary choice in confrontation as is the usual case most states. Perhaps the law needs rewriting. They should have known better than to title it like that. [if they did, sometimes the name comes from elsewhere]

Also, I would like to know was there at least something yelled through her closed window. "You can stay here or you can go to jail" as an actual question.

Although her window may have been slightly open. I don't know.
