NY Post reporting that Eric Swalwell has no home in California, and hasn’t lived there for years. Apparently most Congressional reps maintain at least apartments in both their home district and DC. So either Swalwell has committed mortgage fraud (where have we heard that before?) or he doesn’t live in California. (I sleep on a couch in my office?). We shall see if this is a click bait story from the Post or something real. Seems like he was going to be the anointed candidate to replace Newsom.

What would be the mortgage fraud here?

Implied that he applied as a resident of DC I guess. Maybe listed it as a primary residence? Then he can’t claim California as his primary residence?

Reminder, I’m just guessing. We’ll see if this is a NY Post nothing or a real story.

These folks didn't appreciate the 76 tons:

US Ends Aid to Somalia After Locals Torch and Loot Warehouse Filled with 76 Tons of US-Donated Food

Jan. 18, 2026

The United States ended taxpayer-funded food aid to Somalia after local officials torched and looted the stockpiles of food stored in a local warehouse.

76 tons and what do you get? Another day older and deeper in debt? Well, that too but this is probably a case of one tribe not wanting another tribe to have it

76 tons sounds good too. LOL

"Sixteen Tons" cover version success

Sixteen Tons album cover
Ford scored an unexpected hit on the pop chart in 1955 with his rendering of "Sixteen Tons", a sparsely arranged coal-miner's lament. Merle Travis had first recorded it in 1946. It reflected experiences of the Travis family in the mines at Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. The song's fatalistic tone and bleak imagery were in stark contrast to some sugary pop ballads and rock & roll also on the charts in 1955:

You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt.
Saint Peter, don't you call me, 'cause I can't go;
I owe my soul to the company store...

JD Vance and wife Usha Vance announce they're expecting their fourth child.

They've agreed to a unisex name: "Hassock."

Apt.

Indian culture actually has a lot of unisex names. I learned this last year after arguing about "Bagheera" (name known from jungle book by most Americans) with my wife. I thought it was a male name, she insisted female. Turns out we were both wrong, like many, it is a gender neutral name. And, it led to a rabbit hole of Indian name readings (at least the English translation of such.)

I hope everything goes smooth for them.

The primary new trade alliances formed without US involvement because of tariffs and the broader US trade policy are:

EU-Mercosur Trade Deal: The European Union and the South American trade bloc Mercosur (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay) signed a major trade agreement on January 17, 2026, creating one of the world's largest free-trade zones after 25 years of negotiations.

Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP): The remaining members of the original TPP (which the US withdrew from in 2017) went ahead and implemented the agreement without the US. The CPTPP includes nations like Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia, and Vietnam. The United
Kingdom also negotiated its entry into this pact.

Accelerated EU Trade Talks: The EU has accelerated or resumed trade talks with several individual countries, including Canada, Japan, South Korea, India, the UAE,
and Malaysia, as part of a strategy to strengthen global trade relations independent of the US.

Canada-China Strategic Partnership: Canada pursued a "strategic partnership" with China, which included easing tariffs and increasing trade relations.

Have you read the constitution of the board?
Trump to be chairman for life ( Trump personally, not POTUS )

Trump to have a right to hire or fire board members without challenge.

Members to pay billions for the right to serve.

No doubt a tasty salary and side hustle.

A day after the Supreme Court heard arguments about whether males should be allowed to participate in female sports, Senator Josh Hawley asked a woke MD, whether men can get pregnant.

She earlier stated "Science and evidence should control. Not politics."

Senator Hawley then asked, "Can men get pregnant?"
