Until I looked it up after watching a movie with Bogart as a Navy Ship captain, I didn't know Navy battleships had been sunk by hurricanes. (or Typhoons depending on which side of the world they were on).

Quote:
USS Truxtun (DD-229) and USS Pollux (AKS-2): On February 18, 1942, during a storm in Placentia Bay, Newfoundland, the destroyer USS Truxtun and the stores issue ship USS Pollux were driven ashore, resulting in the loss of 204 sailors1.
USS Warrington (DD-383): On September 13, 1944, the destroyer USS Warrington sank off Florida during a powerful Atlantic hurricane, leading to the drowning of 248 crew members1.
Typhoon Cobra (Halsey’s Typhoon): In December 1944, Typhoon Cobra struck the United States Pacific Fleet during World War II. The storm sank three destroyers (Spence, Hull, and Monaghan), killed 790 sailors, and damaged nine other warships2.

Ships low on fuel in a typhoon were easily tipped over and sunk which is the case with the Destroyers in Typhoon Cobra

a 'battleship' is a particular type of ship, and I'm pretty sure none have sunk in a hurricane or typhoon. Not trying to pick at everything, but for anybody who follows naval history at all it really stands out

I definitely don't follow naval history.

Though I will say Two Years before the Mast, was great reading.

Quote:
Two Years Before the Mast is a memoir by the American author Richard Henry Dana Jr., published in 1840, having been written after a two-year sea voyage

I think the only other sea related book I've read is "Moby Dick"

watched a movie, No God, No Master, in which Sacco and Vanzetti appeared prominently but really had nothing to do with the story

their anarchist sympathies got them convicted of murder they probably did not commit, at least it is clear now the prosecution had a really weak case

>>>

How are Sacco and Vanzetti innocent?

Sacco and Vanzetti Case 90 Years Later: What to Know | TIME
There was plenty of reason to doubt that Sacco and Vanzetti had actually committed the crimes. The money was never recovered and neither suspect had a criminal record. Plus, another known criminal confessed to the crime
__

What evidence proves Sacco and Vanzetti are guilty?

The main physical evidence connecting Sacco and Vanzetti to the crime was the guns in their possession when they were arrested. The prosecutors claimed that Vanzetti's gun belonged to one of the victims and that Vanzetti had stolen it from him.
__

were sacco and vanzetti implicated bridgewater robbery attempt?

Both Sacco and Vanzetti were immediate suspects in the bungled Bridgewater robbery attempt [a prior case]. A case against Sacco was not pursued only because his alibi was irrefutable: he had clocked into work prior to the robbery attempt, and had not clocked out until considerably afterward. [their activities and associates and so on hardly makes them seem virtuous when you look into it ]

the glass shortage has eased, it developed for a host of reasons

including the fricking fracking!

>>>

Is there a shortage of sand for fracking?

Why the Cost of Frack Sand Is Spiking for Permian Oil ...
Total US demand for frack sand is currently about 5% higher than the roughly 25 million tons being produced, according to industry consultant Enverus, which estimates a shortfall of roughly 1.3 million tons............. Jul 6, 2022
__

Fracking sand, silica sand, industrial sand. By any name, one of the world’s most common and useful types of sand is in high demand and the silica sand sector is experiencing continuing rapid growth...

More Glass Means More Silica Sand Demand

The demand for more glass is a result of the increase in construction, automotive production, and high-tech applications for “smart glass”. As impressive as the CAGR numbers for silica sand are, it’s easy to see the source of increasing demand for it when examining the glass market which makes up 1/3 of the silica sand market.

for some reason started reading about "the most dangerous bird in the world" a "living dinosaur" ... the Cassowary

>>>

"the largest maximum recorded being a southern cassowary at ...187 lb and .... 6 ft 3 in tall." [wikipedia page]
__

How dangerous is cassowary?

Cassowaries are not overly aggressive, and attacks are rare, according to the Library of Congress. But the animals can do a lot of damage if provoked or angered.
__

How powerful is a cassowary kick?

Cassowaries are Considered to be the World's Most Dangerous ...
Cassowaries are known for their powerful legs and strong kicks, which they can use for defense or to escape from predators. The strength of a cassowary kick can vary, but it is estimated that a cassowary can deliver a forceful kick with the power of up to 1,000 pounds per square inch.
__

Their legs are also used for delivering strong kicks, and they can use their sharp dagger-like claws, up to 4 inches long, to slice and puncture any animal that is a threat, including humans [the claw has one digit that is knife-like, but has no spur like a turkey]

I've started to realize how many movies get made in a year and how crazy it is after checking it out, that usually the conclusion is, none are worth seeing.

>>>

How many movies get produced a year?

Generally, the number of total releases around the world per year is in the neighborhood of 2,000 – 3,000. So Hollywood studios, whatever that term really means, only accounts for a small fraction of the total number of releases each year, but these studio movies also have far more money behind them than most. Nov 7, 2021
__

In 2023, a total of 504 movies were released in the United States and Canada, up from 456 in the previous year. Still, these figures are under the 792 titles released in 2019, before the COVID-19 outbreak. May 14, 2024
