Gasoline and a match will get rid of most garden pests.

You can try to attract natural predators as one solution.

as for distilling, this has made a comeback and people are buying the new modern stills and making liquor at home, you can google 'buy a still' and see what you get. These new stills are much safer, since distilling liquor can actually be dangerous due to explosions

If you do it, you are taking a chance that you'll get in trouble. The stills are sold to make other products 'officially' ... not liquor. The risk is low if you do it only for your own consumption. Supplying others is the first step into getting noticed ... selling to others will really do it.

If you google asking if it's legal, everything that comes up is like the below

>>>

Is it legal to home distill in the US?

While individuals of legal drinking age may produce wine or beer at home for personal or family use, Federal law strictly prohibits individuals from producing distilled spirits at home (see 26 United States Code (U.S.C.) Mar 7, 2024

I'm a homebrewer and have looked into it

reasons to not distill your own liquor:

your product will be nasty

the commercially liquor makers get the impurities out, the more you pay for it, the better it is [at least that should be true]

it's illegal federally, and often locally illegal to just to own a still [true in VA]. A book I bought on the topic said "but it's not illegal to know how" thus the book

your first runnings will be weak and you need to distill the runnings to increase the proof. This is where things get explosive.

rumor has it I made some once using a pot with the lid turned upside down over strong homebrew and ice put in the upturned lid. Obviously heating the pot made vapor and it dripped off the lid into a bowl poised on some sticks. This was made into a sort of martini, which if the rumor is true, gave me a headache. That was the end of it.

I'm sure the modern ones you can buy help with all these problems except the legality
