Having worked for a company that operates hundreds of convenience stores, not many deaths but lots of robberies. I think the people robbing them know they can only get a couple hundred dollars so they are less likely to shoot. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent. |

Arabic term which roughly translates to 'collective harassment' is a phenomenon where a group of young men target the lone woman at public place. Abusing and assaulting people is not allowed in Islam [other answers are like this, so it seems it is part of Arab culture not derived from Islam] __ Nehad Abu Komsan, head of the Egyptian Center for Women's Rights, argues that sexual harassment is a symptom of the country's political and economic oppression, and that men are "lashing out at those next down the line in the patriarchy." __ [I think I saw that a Westernized woman would typically be the target, but I can't find that now] I'm Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah [it's an old guy chant for me] |

| odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 165 Posts: 6374 | I really had to do a lot of searching and ask the question the right way to finally get an answer to this. In a restaurant I would get whole fish the chef cut slits in and the explanation I got from other people at the table was that it was to "help you eat it". That just made me irritated; turns out it's not correct Also, serving the whole fish is a trend apparently, and using all parts is sometimes tried in the spirit of the matter >>> why cut Slits cut in the skin help the fish cook evenly? [bad English but this worked] If the skin is on, score it with a few diagonal slits (to prevent the fillet from curling during cooking) and cook with the skin side down in a pan. __ whole fish a trend? The dish has been on-ramping for some time now. Feast Magazine clocked whole fish as an emerging restaurant trend in 2016. The same year, Restaurant Business stated fish belly, a previously unfavorable cut, was starting to gain popularity amongst consumers. Now, the era of whole fish has finally arrived __ Why do people eat whole fish? They taste better, are a more sustainable way to eat, are cheaper than filets, replicate what many of us enjoy about the outdoors experience and are a more honest and authentic way to cook __ Do people eat the whole fish? There are multiple reasons why some should buy and eat whole fish. First and foremost, cooking whole fish is less work. Secondly, when receiving whole fish, you will know exactly the quality of the fish. The gills, eyes, and smell are usually a dead giveaway __ What parts of the fish head can you eat? [I edited this from the site that came up] Cultures around the world have eaten the tender meat out of the cheeks, throats, and collars of fish since time immemorial... some of the best meat, the morsels hidden within the fish’s head. Cheeks Fish cheeks have become quite popular ... sweet, tender, and hearty. These succulent gems are found just behind and down from the eye. Collars The fish collar is the meat found behind the gill plate and forward of the pectoral fins....many serious seafood lovers swear the meat and fat in the collar make it one of the most desirable cuts. Throat/Tongue Both the “tongue” and the v-shaped chunk of meat attaching it to the lower jaw are worthy of the pan...literally melts in your mouth. The meaty muscle in the lower jaw is a highly sought-after delicacy. In Newfoundland they’re coated in flour and deep-fried, but the Basque people of Northern Spain have fine-tuned countless incredible recipes using this cut of meat, which they call “kokotxas.” Check out the recipe I used from Niland’s, “The Whole Fish Cookbook.” Whole Head ... the entire fish head is edible, but it’s not always efficient or convenient to cook the parts separately... perfect for curries, soups, stews, and stocks. They can also be cooked in one piece and then picked apart for fish cakes, pizza toppings, pastas, or eating on the spot. Brain Western culture... may not appreciate fish brains [the article concedes, but they are edible] [one chef] steams the heads whole ... the fat from the brain melts out of its cavity, adding flavour to the rest of the meat. Eyes “too complicated for a Western palate.” [but for example a chef] and his team in Sydney work around this by blending the eyes and using them in place of eggs in select recipes. https://www.themeateater.com/cook/butchering-and-processing/nostril-to-caudal-eating-fish-heads I'm Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah [it's an old guy chant for me] |
